just got daughter with 2 kids out of nursing school and now her 2004 Mazda 3 is having trans. troubles. It will go forward but has had some trouble in 4th gear, but will not go into reverse. Tonight I drove it around the block and the AT light came on also beside of D position. I know this means transaxle trouble, but what is this and does it sound more terminal ? I have read where Mazda/Ford trans are notoriosly bad. Thanks for any info you might have. I just see more $$$ being spent here and I feel bad because we have a Tribute that is great so we recommended the Mazda3 to her.

A Mazda dealer today told us that the warranty was for 50,000 miles. It has 55,500 now. Well what do you know......? They also said it could just be that the computer needs to be re-set. Ever heard of this ? and what do you do to do that ? Does the dealer have to do it ? Thanks again for any info.you might have.

It does not sound as though a Computer "FLASH" will cure your problem`s Like NO Reverse ! do this . Take it to Reputiable Mechanic to drop the tran`s oil pad and look for Debris if found it`s Shot ! if no debris it may be worth a shot but have it scanned again to be sure nothing has come up

Hi Hogrider, can i ask some advice, i have a van which has a aw03-72L auto transmission, it works fine at the start but after a few minutes of driving it seems to start losing its reverse initially you would have to wait 5 seconds when put in reverse to feel the reverse engage, and if you use it longer then the reverse would not pull at all or if it does its like the reverse is slipping or like just a little pull at all. then if you continue using the drive it will come to a point that it will start to slip too. but i noticed that if i pull aside and just shut of the engine even just for a few seconds like anything from 5 to 15 seconds and start the car again the transmission would be okay again as in drive and reverse and all but as you drive it again the problem would occur again and usually in a shorter time or distance traveled compared to the first start from cold, could it be the atf cooler is not cooling it down , hope you could give me some suggestions on how to make the transmission work hopefully i can get more than 15kms before it acts up. thanks

Try gettin it serviced .. If your filter Collect`s enough debris it will lower the amount of Fluid the pump can pull Thus lowering your Fluid " PRESSURE " when you shut it off fer a few , it tend`s to "DROP" the Debris out from the filter Thus UNCLOGING it ... It may help and Buy you some Miles ! Please let me know how you make out...

sorry hogrider, but I don't have any codes for the Mazda 3. I took it tonight to Auto Zone and it would not register any codes on their little hand held machine attached under dash. I noticed that at times it also would show in 3rd when I had stopped. Then it would register correct and then the AT light would come on, then go off after awhile. Thanks again for your help. It is really appreciated.

hogrider the problem was figured out. It turns out cause a short in brake system wire which the calibrator gets power from caused the calibrator not to read a signal from the transmission. the short was fixed and now the truck is shifting fine as well as the speedometer is also working. thank you for your advice it did help track the problem~~~ crzytrn

Should there be any end play on the output shaft of a GM 4T65E automatic. I recently changed the CV shaft on the drivers side and noticed that the output shaft has movement to it. Not sure if this is normal or a result of wear of 158,000 miles. By changing the shaft my noise went away, but now it seems to have come back on both the passenger side and driver side. I'm trying to determine if I have a transimssion problem or perhaps just need new struts.
