For some reason my post yesterday didn't show up here, so...
My grandson has a '99 Silverado shortbed with auto trans. Lately when he's been shifting into reverse there is a loud clunk sound. Any ideas why? Thanks HR.

Hi Hog Rider.I have a 97 4l60e which I have been trying to rebuild for the last 2 months when I get time i do a little here and a little there.I found a orange (cardboard i guess) gasket about the size of a quarter and two yellowish plastic round pieces about the size of a penny that i have no idea where they go.I would appreciate any info you could give me.I bought a rebuild manual but there is nothing there about it.Thanks Kurtis

Hello Hog... Rider...: I am having a problem with a 1740 trans. code. Took it in the shop, as the transmission was acting up, but drove well. the transmission acted like it did not want to gear down. Replaced transmission the code comes up again, took it back to the shop; they replaced some electronics in the transmission. The code is a TCC or Solenoid for the O/D--1740. Three days later same code. I took it back they said nothing was wrong with the transmission. But they found a wire going to the transmission that was frayed, they fixed and sent me on my way. Now, four days later the O/d locks up doing about 70 on the highway and will not switch back. I stopped and turned the eginition off and then restarted the O/D switch is now working. My question is Is this O/D Solenoid faulty of is it sending a false code back to the ECM?????? This will be the fourth time in the shop for the same reason. Pls help! Looks like Hog Rider went bye-bye. And he said he was trying to "give transmissions guy's a better reputation."

Check the u-joints on the drive shaft. With the truck off, crawl under the truck and try to wiggle/twist the drive shafts. If the u-joints are bad, you will be able to move it, especially near the xfer case and differential.

I have a problem with my transmission leaking. I have a hyndai elantra 2002, with about 90k miles on it. I recently got the transmission fluid changed, and now it is leaking. The guys at the repair shop keep telling me it is residual. Well, its been leaking for days now. How much residue can there be? I don't really know what to do. Any suggestions?

hey Hog Rider remember me?,ford f250 burning solenoids...? well supposedly tranny is fixed but i got a computer problem, the motorola power transistor(marked 5101da321)in the transmission computer ,the transistor that controls the solenoid for oil pressure is faulty . problem is i cannot track it down using the # to buy a new one or get a data sheet of it to replace it with an equivalent. think u might know where to get one of those transistor or at least a catalog #for it? let me know pls I d love avoiding having to replace whole computer, costs a fortune down here and would have to wait for ever. cheers frank

Thanks for the help. I just helped my neighbor swap a used transmission into his 2000 Blazer 4x4 automatic (4L60E). Good god that didn't go as easily as I thought it would. Anyway, we got it all back together yesterday without any broken pieces or extra parts ha ha .... and NO GO !!! It won't engage into any gear. My guess is that the TC isn't engaging for some reason ? Do we need to prime or bleed the transmision to get the fluid pumping and pressurized. Most or all of the fluid drained from the TC when we pulled the old transmission out. Anyway ... we could use some help on where to start now. I can't imagine the transmission is totally shot and won't go into any gears but I guess anything is possible. It also has several electrical connections that I have no idea what they do. What do you recommend we do first to diagnose the problem ?
Thank you, Randy

You just might have jammed the converter into the pump, and ruined the pump. The 4L60E has a vane pump. First thing to do is take a pressure test.
