Hi.. I have a 96 chry sebring 2.5L v6 AUTOMATIC trans. that just went bad. My 3rd gear clutch is gone. So i found a couple transmissions on the net from anywere to 450$-1.000+. But in the same time, i was wondering how much it will cost me to get a manual transmission in. What's better for me to do? what to you guys think that the prive will be for both of them.. or at leats, the labor to be put on..?! thanks 330 224 3120 - Mike

Good Morning Hog Rider..
I have a '01 Gran Prix small 6 cyl. The trans shifts smoothly EXCEPT when I give it FULL throttle until it shifts into 2nd or put it into passing gear at full throttle until it shifts. It will then momentarily shutter. This seems to happen only from 1st to 2nd. I just had the fluid changed at Dealer's recommendation but it still is happening. They could not find an error code. They also claimed to reset the trans for the new fluid if that makes any sense. I have 62,000 but have lived with the problem for several thousand miles. the problem DOES NOT seem to be getting worse. Is the problem worth fixing? Thanks very much Mr. Rider. ZIPPO KID

Hog Rider, Could you help me? I'm a female, not good with terminology. But we have a 1998 Ford Explorer and the timing chain? went. We're told it's hours of labor to get in at it, and the truck has 123,000 miles and the oil pressure is not that good. So we could put a reconditioned engine in it- for about $3000 total?,-but then, what if the transmission goes? We've only had the truck for 3 years and paid 10,000 for it. It was a southern car- no rust, nice body, beautiful condition, no problems for the last three years till now) Is this year known for transmission problems? Is there a way to project if this truck will have problems with the tran once the timing/engine problem is fixed? What would you do? Thank you so much for your advice.

My son has a 626. The tranny shifts to 2nd gear and stays there. Will not shift higher unless he drives some distance, 30 - 40 miles. He took it to dealer and they had him replace senser. Don't know which one. After driving some distance light goes out and shifts fine. After replacing sensor, worked fine for next day. After replacing sensor does computer have to be reset? Suggestions welcomed. What do I need to ask him for more info?

I have a 97 Dodge ram 1500 with a 46rh or re 4 speed auto trans. The other day I noticed it quickly shifting in and out of 1st and 2nd gear but would shift into 2nd after one of these quick stumbles.Yesterday it stopped shifting into 2nd it does intermittantly and then might have trouble from 2nd to 3rd once it shifts into 3rd no problems with overdrive?I dropped the pan changed the filter and no fix. Some furry gooey metal substance on the pan magnet. This tranny was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago.I do pull a hill to work and use the overdrive somewhat. When having trouble from 2nd to third I shift to nuet and then back to drive and it shifts then.I also adjusted the rear band to 72 inch pounds and backed off 2 full turn and locked the nut. After this and new fluid I hear a noise from the trans could be pump gurgling but also sounds like something chattering. I did not read the band adjustment instructions thoroughly and noticed after I did it it says to back the lock nut off only 4 turns well I backed it off a bunch and then went 72 inch pounds was this wrong and can I remedy this?Local trans shop mentioned some kind of govener solonoid?HELP!!!!!!!

OK I have changed the solonoids in the pan all of them. Also installed a tps throttle position sensor, vehicle speed sensor, new atf+4 fluid and filter and still not shifting right and once it did not downshift and I must have taken off in 3rd becuse it was very sluggish and pinged like it was going to die.Checked the throttle valve cable at the throttle body and looks right.I am having a hard time caving in on this tranny with 15,000 someone help or am I just being stubborn. Thanks for any suggestions.Paul

maybealexus 123,000 miles on your truck ? This could be a Money pit . Personally I would not dump that money in it.... a Trans would run you anywhere from , $800.00 to $2300.00 price one in your area before you go any further...

I will have it scanned this Thursday thanks for the Aamco tip.No lights have came up on the dash so I can,t scan with my cheapo OBDII.I have been driving the past two days and sometimes or I would say the majority of the time it shifts fine and then sometimes not to 2nd and then sometimes to 2nd but not to 3rd when it does this I shift up to neutral and back down to drive and it will shift into next gear accordingly. The truck has 143,000 and you are right $1600.00 for a rebuild if I can't fix it soon its junk. Thanks very much Hog Man.
