My elderly grandma's (I'm her grandson mechanic) 2002 Mercury Sable LS's AC doesn't cool at all. She's used the heater from AC console during a cold day and now AC just blows heated air, not warm air but HOT air, no matter what settings the thermostat is set at. All AC switches (air flow options) seem to work. The thermostat settings increase and decrease in one degree increments except when lowering below 65 degrees it jumps to 60, not sure if that's normal.
I checked fuses, disconnected & reconnected battery...no luck...
Help!

No R134. Check the pressure with a guage and recharge unless you have a leak in the condensor.

The fact that it not only doent blow cool air, but only blows HOT air leads me to believe that its a problem in that the system is stuck on heat. I think you should be looking for the problem in the area of the system that switches between heat and cool.

I've got the same problem. Accidentally hit the AC button in the middle of winter...switched to "heat" and it's been blowing HOT air on AC ever since.
System's fully charged...no leaks...hoses (tubes)at the condenser get ice cold but the cold air never makes it to the vents.
ANY help at all would be GREATLY appreciated...especially with hot weather on the way.
Jim
