The rear end collision is the most frequent vehicle accident. I purchased one of these from sparebumper.com just in case.
there was just released a note from the NTHSA.gov about jeep gas tank fires... so something will be coming soon.. interesting thing that spare bumper.. i cannot see where it will help a great deal in the jeep rear end collision fires.. where the car that impacted the jeeps went under the jeep and tore into the plastic gas tank.. at least in the ones that i know about.. almost all the other car designs have moved the gas tanks over the rear axle.. or infront of the rear axle... many years of corvettes had the gas tanks lined with tough rubber.. ... before they moved them forward of the rear wheels.. making them tough to work on.. japanese cars have had the gas tanks under the car in front of the rear axle for decades... but the jeep is classified at a truck.. so it comes under slightly different emission and collision standards...ford quit selling the crown victoria to the public do to this problem.. the gas tank was under the forward part of the trunk... the police and highway patrol cars were getting rear ended by drunk drivers at such high speeds that the trunk full of equipment the police carry made it a solid area and moved the crush area forward and crushed the fuel tanks... most of the newer model police interceptors have an under car fire suppression system that is activated in a strong rear end crash... i would think that there are going to be new rear impact plates available soon.. to wrap around the gas tank from the rear.. but i don't know what the testing ill show..these are just my personal opinions..
