A friend put 02 leather seats in my 2005 GMC Sierra SL crew cab truck. It has 26,000 miles and has the 5.8L V8 engine.

The truck came with cloth seats. They were able to hook up all the of electrical except for the airbags so the airbag light is on. The adapter/plugs for the wires were changed between 02 and 05 and we are concerned about the airbags deploying by changing the adapter to make it work. In the long process of trying to make this work I was assured that their would be no problems so I was an idiot and sold the 05 seats. SadAlso there is a concern that the airbag sensors in the seats are different between the leather 02 seats and the cloth 05 seats... any ideas or suggestions to get the air bag light off and insure the airbags are in working order would be appreciated because the truck is for sale and hard to sell with the air bag light on.

Airbag systems have been around for about 20 years now.  They are constantly changing the sensing and operation aspects of every vehicle and system.  Specifically, the airbags from even 1 year difference cannot and should not be used or swapped.  These are electrically and explosively different components.  Although they all talk to an SDM (sensing and diagnostic module), they send different signals, potentially comprise different explosive parameters and have different plugs EXACTLY for that reason.  That's why they won't work and you will not be able to turn off the airbag light.  I would suggest you attempt to obtain leather seats from a 2005 vehicle and sell those 2002 seats.

PS  The sensors are not in the seat, the airbag is.  The sensors are in the doors
