99 Gr Cherokee Ltd - Driver Door Electronics not working

My 99 Grand Cherokee Ltd. V8 with infinity sound system that started having problems with the driver door electronics. If I open the door, none of the electronics work (they did work previously). When I close the door, same thing. Nothing on the door works (not the door switches, seat settings, lights, etc.). Also, the car thinks the driver's door is open so the courtesy lights remain on. I can turn the interior lights off via the light switch on the steering column but that doesn't help me at night. What's wierd is that occaisionally or if I'm patient enough and continue to open and close the door several times, the door electronics will start to work again.

I've checked the wires visually in the rubber conduit between the chassis and the dooe itself and they appear to be OK. Visually I also don't see any problems with the connector from the rubber conduit that that snaps into the door frame near the hinges. I considered replacingthe Drivers Door Module but it's a $300 part. And before I go shotgunning a $300 part at the problem, I'd like to know if there are any other areas (i.e. - known connector issues, wiring behind the door panel, a hidden switch at the door's latching mechanism, BCM, etc?) that could be the culprit. What bothers me about the idea of replacing the DDM is that if the DDM is bad then why don't the lights on the door panel and the seat setting switches work either (does the DDM alos control these)?

Any help is appreciated as always.

I too am interested in any replies to this.  I have a 2004 Jeep GR Cherokee and same thing happened last night.  I get an indication taht the drivers door is open and the interior lights stay on.  None of the controls on the drivers door works. The power door lock also does not work for the driver's door but works for all others.  Help!!

ignition off,try resetting the bcm by pulling off the IOD fuse (at the pdc) for at least 20 seconds. most weird electrical problems can be reset by that method.

I am having exactly the same problem with my 2004 Grand Cherokee. When I first noticed the interior lights on and the windows would not roll down It seemed like the car is not recognizing that the door is closed? But that indicator light only showed from about 20 min. Its so much fun to drive and not be able to roll down the windows.

I've got a 2004 GC Laredo with this problem. Took it in and they quoted me $317 for the part, called driver's door module. I'm looking around for a better price. Sounds like it's a buggy piece of equipment. Bummer

Where is the driver's door module located? I have a 2004 GC Laredo also and the driver's door controls when south last night.

I just fixed this kind of problem....check the black wire between the door and the body inside the rubber boot. The boot comes off the door rather easy but putting it back into place is hard. I soldered the wires and was back in business in under 30 minutes....then another 30 to figure out how to get the boot back on.....it will go back on using a screw driver (to hold the plastic door piece away from the door)and a tiny pair of needlenose pliers.    Good luck!!

2002 Grand Cherokee Overland: Same problem, same fix. The black wire was internally broken about 2-3 inches from the door connector. A little shrink tubing and a solder joint fixed the problem after hours of troubleshooting fuses, connectors, etc.

I'm suffering with the exact same problem. It worked on and off for a few days, then failed altogether. I did find the DDM on line for $120....... But I'm going to try the black wire check first.

I had the same problem, but my wire broke too far into the boot to weld or splice. What I did is grab some 12GA. wire and ran it into the boot and into the Jeep behind the hood release. I then pulled the wire leading into the boot from the Jeep back out of the boot, spliced the new wire and old wire pulled from the boot. The spliced the old wire from the door to the new wire through the boot and was up and running in 10 minutes.

Hope this helps too!

Jeep 99 Grand Cherokee. Same problem, same fix. I took the whole door out. It took me 10min and it was much easier to work. In addition to the black wire I found that one more wire was cut. Orange or something, the other bigger wire there is. So check all of them. My liftgate has not been working (the remote could not unlock it) for some time now and today after I fixed the wires it locks and unlocks with the remote again.
