My 2003 A4 CVT tran is shuddering. I'm at 62,000 miles. The dealer just informed me it will cost $7,000+ to replace the transmission with a "new and improved CVT". I cried all the way home. I don't know what to do. I bought the car used less than a year ago - I thought it was flawless. I, too, can't believe that Audi won't help us get these transmissions fixed. Did someone mention a class-action lawsuit?? I'm in!!

Being a rebuilder of such CVT transmissions in Audi's, Mini's, Honda's and the original creation of the CVT. The Subaru Justy!! By design all of these models are failing and parts availability is the #1 issue with all of them. The Ford 500 is one of the only that the manufacture lists all the parts new for. Most require hunting up used pulleys and belts to assemble. If you can explain to me how a metal belt running on ramped metal pulleys like a variable rubber belt does in a snow mobile will hold up. You're smarter than my metallurgy background can.
In short stick with manual gearboxes or automatics with clutchpacks and leave the snowmobile on the snow.

A4 118T 65783 going down the same road, not always ready to go into reverse. All the lights on the counsel blinking or just blank space where the p,n,r,d, should be. accelerates without warning usually after I've tried to turn a corner and the engine stalls. have to go to park and restart but i need to go very lightly on the gas pedal.
these problems that you all are talking about i have. Policy at the dealership seems to suggest different solutions. until they get honest and tell you need a new replacement tranny.
class action would work because Audi has a history of building quality automobles. I go to the dealership Friday but at least i know the lingo and the history now. I am also very interested in class action suit.

I have a 03 A4 1.8 convertible with 47,000 miles. Transmission went out last week. I called Audi USA only to get the generic book answers. Take it to Audi and have it diagnosed and then they will see if they will assist. I purchased an extended warranty only to find out they will only cover $3,000 and then the warranty is over. My local Audi dealer says to call Audi USA as they can't do anything. This will be the last Audi I purchase and will be selling this one once it gets fixed.
Heres an update. My local Audi dealer rebuilds the transmissions. The rebuild kit run about $1200 and about $1350 in labor. The master tech said Audi made these kits and had the mechanics trained because it was costing them too much money to replace the transmissions under warranty.

has anyone thought about litigating Audi of America for a manufacturing defect. I also have a cvt in a 2003 A4 cabriolet that the dealer says is failing. The Audi PURE PROTECTION EXTENDED WARRANTY has refused to pay until the car is seriously damaged. 53K miles ...there is definitely a defect in the design!!! Lets get together as a class to bring this issue to a court!!! I can be directly emailed smilemaker@prodigy.net

I have 2004 A4 Cabriolet. Transmission failed at 39,000. After complaining to Audi USA, I was offered a 25% discount off the $7000 transmission replacement cost. This is complete *** and Audi is a joke of a company for not owning up to their crap CVT. I was looking to purchase the URL audisucks.com but someone beat me to it. At this point, the webpage only says "coming soon". Ha. Anyway, everyone should save their receipts. I'm certain this problem will make its way to court!

Same here. My 2003 Audi A4 Cabriolet with the 1.8T and Sport/Tip-tronic failed at just over 53,000 miles last month. It cost me a tune of $6,000 to have it fixed. I'm definitely interested in litigation as Audi USA declined to replace it (it was out of warranty).

Well I'm another to add to the list. 2004.5 b6 3.0 bought with 29700 miles on it, had to have the transmission control module fixed after 3 days. Due to a back order, it was in the shop for two months waiting on the part, luckily the dealer payed for the fix ($2k). Now only at only 35k the tranny goes quoted $7400, thats $9400 worth of work in only 5k miiles?!?!? I'm going to try to get AofA to pay for it, but if not does anyone know any dealers that are trained in the CVT repair or rebuild, not just replacement. If this does ever go to trial, I'm def in.

My A4 cvt transmission went out in August of 2007 and I had it replaced for $8000.00 with a rebuilt cvt. This one is now shuddering so it's just a matter of time before it gives up the ghost. I there is a class action suit I'm in.

I am definitely interested in this going to court. This is my second audi. the first an A-6 2.8 has had few probs and is ok at 160K miles, but this 3.0 03 cab has been a prob. I had one local service guy--not a dealer--state that it needed new electronic clutch plates to the tune of 3$k. The dealer says that they will only replace the entire trany for $8K and that the regional guy authorized a 25% reduction in the cost of the parts---which is little help. Obviously this would be the last Audi I will ever own. Has anyone had experience with the clutch plate replacement being at least a temporary solution to the problem?

I had this same problem - I found a guy in tampa who loves working on audi - thought I was going to have to replace the transmission. They changed the transmission fluid and this fixed the problem. I would try this first. It did cost about $350 for this but it worked!
