1992 Honda Accord D4 light always on. (as of today)

I was driving for about an hour around town today, I pulled into a parking spot, put it in park, heard a click and the d4 light stayed on. The result of this staying on is that it feels as though the tranny is not fully engaged. Now, when I start the car there is an audible clicking coming from the left side of the dash and the d4 indicator is on all the time (the same click that sounds when shifting into gear- to be clear this is not the click of the safety switch which comes from inside the console). The clicking is excessive and stops when the car fires up. The blinking that the d4 light should be doing to denote its cause is not happening. I haven't had any problems with the transmission until this point, it was working properly until it abruptly wasn't. I have not changed or checked the console switch yet (if anyone has clearer instructions on the testing of this switch than the haynes manual I would appreciate it). If anyone has any ideas on this it would be of great help. I'm at a loss and am hesitant to drive it until this is fully fixed. It's a 1992 Honda Accord EX Automatic.

Sorry for the two section post on this (also in Honda forum); I wanted to make sure it made it to you transmission guys.

Just for the Heck of it .. It dont sound like a Transmission Failure . But  Pull your Shifter console cover off and look for any Pennies or anything that may have fallen down their . a true Tran`s problem would have triggered a FLASHING D4 light...
now you Still may have a Bad M.L.P.S.{ Manual Lever Positioner Sensor}
That is a Nuetral saftey switch  to say...

I thought it might be something like that, too (pennies, etc). I pulled it off and all is clean and clear.

Is the MLPS the same as the shift position console switch?

NO !  The M.L.P.S. is located in the transmission .
The Shift Position  switch is in the console
They dont  Normally go bad  Although the MLPS is Exposed to the Elements and will live a Shorter life....
Your best bet is to Gain Axcess to a Scanner and Look at all the Commands  as to if the computer is Receiving the signal from the mlps.

Exposure to the elements would make sense, we had a little blizzard here and the roads are salt and slush covered. It's just funny that it didn't do it the other three times I put it in park while I was out.

Update: While we were eating dinner I disconnected the battery. I just went out and reconnected it. D4 is now off and it's working properly. I took it on a little spin, put it into park about a half dozen times and all is well (so far). Any thoughts what would cause this sporadic behavior?

Maybe it did have a chance to dry. It's so strange, through the hour I was first tinkering with it I started and engaged the tranny a few times with no luck. This whole evolution only started three hours ago. I'll keep the MLPS in mind and see how this goes. Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it. Over and out.
