V6, Automatic, 109K, with the power/comfort switchable trans. In any mode, whether power, comfort, neutral, when I place the shift lever in "D", the car starts in high gear and never down shifts or shifts to O/D. If I place the shift lever in low, the car starts in low and I can manually shift to "2" and then to "D". each functioning fine. If I place the shift lever in "2", the car starts in 2nd and I can manually shift up to "D". Does the same thing in down shifting. Everything works great as long as I manually shift the car. Is it the shift computer or the solenoid pack? Any checks I can do? Is the solenoid pack inside the transmission? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

sound`s like you lost power to your Solonoid`s
(It`s called Fail safe)

Do check the connections to your solonoids first  as that is the most commom problem !
First take off your air box, assy.
you will see 2 large connectors going from the center of the top of your trans to the back  (where the linkage is )
with your car RUNNING !   disconnect and reconnect  each one several times you should hear a clicking sound , try this !   Reply back if Unsucessfull  but if it works your In, if it only lasts a few miles  your Solonoid`s  will need to be replaced

I found the connectors and tried your suggestion, but no luck.  Because this is a solenoid based shifting transmission, wouldn't the gear selector also not work as all it does is activates switches to the appropriate solenoids, I think???  In this case, I can select 1st, 2nd, and Drive (3rd) and it does go into the corresponding gear; In Drive, it just won't automatically go through and shift the gears itself.  That is why I thought if may be the shift computer.

shift soleniod failure is not common here,  more common failure is rear planets this would cause valve body trouble. and odd noise? check for bad fuse's ,computer maybe but not likely
