I own a 2001 Chevy 2500HD w/8.1 liter, Allison, CrewCab, Shortbed.

I live @ 9000 feet above seas level so I replaced air element to open air K&N.  I replaced Mass Airflow Sensor as well when problem was noticed.  Granatelli model.  I have a throttle body spacer.  Does nothing but make noise... I think.

I have problems with this truck.  It drinks oil with every gas fillup.  Maybe not every one but at least every two or three fill ups.  I also get 10mpg all the time.  Some improvment when I drive 45-55mph.  Performance and power is down recently too.  Sluggish... not like when new.  Most electronics have never worked.  Right after warranty expired.  Power seats, mirrors, locks and rear defogger all on same circuit.  Fuel tank stopped reading accurate level after warranty too.  The shutting off problem I replied to another thread.

What about O2 sensors?  Are there better ones than original equipment?  Also... how about bigger throttle body?  From BBK.  Has anyone done this?  Looking to keep it running for a long while although living in the mountains... the engine asks for more air.

yeah 8100's use oil. sorry. they really do. some oil is normally left on the cylinder walls of all engines. the cylinder walls in a 8.1 are huge, a lot more surface area than other stuff. GM has determined that up to 3qts every 3,000 miles on an 8.1 is completely normal. I wouldnt worry about long term, just add some oil once in a while if you have to.

There is nothing better than oem. that is whats designed for the truck.
