1997 Ford Taurus 3.0 OHC U

My wife was driving when the car went "into neutral"
The instrument panel dimmed, and the car stopped. The engine runs fine and there is no check engine light and no stored codes.
I checked the shift solenoids and they all showed 12 ohms. What seems curious is that there seems to be no electrical signals coming into the transmission from the PCM.
The transmission range sensor seems to change state as I go thru the gears; but I am not sure if it is operating correctly or not. There is power coming in from the red wire.
Any thoughts? Thanks, Tod
