my tracer will not start. i took it out yesterday 12/31/05, gassed it up and came home. we moved it out of the driveway, ( it started fine) went to pull it in and it made it halfway up and stopped. now it will not start. it acts like it wants to turn over but wont. fuel pressure is fine. and we thought it might be wires and plugs. we changed those but that hasnt helped. does anyone have any suggestions. please help. thanks

Does the engine crank over much faster than before? If yes , the timing belt broke.

Do you have spark? This can be checked by removing a spark plug wire , attach one of the old plugs you changed and hold the threads of the plug against a ground ( metal engine part) with pliers. Have someone crank the engine and you should see the spark jump the gap on the spark plug.

I would guess the camshaft position sensor. But 1997-1999 Mercury Tracers have been known to have cold-start problems due to moisture in the integrated relay-control module.

check the ignition module. and the link wire to the pcm. if the circuit is open, the pcm cannot take over the injection without engine rpm
