Aside from the ASE certification, and maybe checking with the BBB, how does one evaluate a mechanic aside from potentially costly trial and error?

Anyone know any great ones in Irvine?
 

My friend's brother opened up a shop not too long ago. They do very good, realiable work and they won't try and scam you.  They specialize in Japanese cars. I've taken my 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo to them a couple times and they do great work.  Talk to either Nima or Steve the mechanic. Tell em Warren sent you.
