Have a 1999 grand am se that stalls after each and every fill up at the gas station. The check engine light recently came on and the code reads p1441 evap systems flow during non purge. Any ideas where to start? Car also stalls on occasion at stop signs and red lights but not consistantly.

It could be as simple as a bad gas cap.

have replaced the gas cap and the egr valve recently. It's the fact that it's had to start after filling up that has me baffled. I've replaced the fuel filter thinking it might be junk in the tank. I haven't tried the egr valve. I'll give that a shot and let you know. Thanks

I have a 1999 Grand PRIX GT that has this same problem, except I have never gotten the engine light to come on. I don't stall at stop signs or red lights, but occasioanlly the car shakes as if it is going to stall in such situations. I only stall after filling up if I fill the tank completely or near completely. New fuel pump, new fuel filter did not fix. If you figure your problem out please post back here because this is driving me crazy!

Maybe a bad carbon canister for the evaporative system. They can get flooded out if you always fill to the very top of filler neck, don,t try cramming the tank to the top. Gas caps do go bad, they are to be air tight, if they leak they can trip codes.

Once the carbon canister is flooded a few times, its shot! Did you pressure test the gas cap?

Thers a specific tester for that. You won't want to buy one , cheaper to replace cap. Replace carbon canister and double checck all fuel and return lines for leaks.

I'm having this same exact problem after a fill up it stalls. Have you figured out your problem yet? I get the code 1441 also but it seems to come on when the car gets down to between a 1/4 and 1/2 tank?
Thanks, Anthony

I think I found the problem in my car (VW passat) there was a sticking purge valve. I cleaned the valve with the carb cleaner and the valve started working. I went to gas station and the car started like new. I hope this info helps.

check the vacuum lines for the evap system.
If any of them are disconnected/cracked/frayed they can cause a vacuum leak which can cause stalling and the codes you stated.
Usually there is a label under the hood which is a diagram showing all the vacuum hoses for all the emissions devices. I would start there.
On the cars I work on, it is common to see a vacuum hose disconnected at the airbox, if it was serviced at a J##FY L$(e.,
