I recently had my oil changed. After a couple of days I noticed an oil leak approx 1-2 drops a day. Carried the car to the mechanic and the problem seemed to be the filter, it was not tight The filter was tightened but the leaking continued. The gasket and filter is in good condition. Can having the wrong oil filter cause the filter to leak?

The wrong filter can cause a leak, as well as some other damage. If you're still under warranty, take it to the closest dealer. If not, get a second opinion from a different mechanic, or a"real" mechanic if you first took you vehicle to a quick lube. Have the mechanic check the leak and filter model number.

Other damage could include stripping the oil spout threads, damaging the interior of the misfit filter, which could invite filter material into the system, and cracking the misfit filter.

what kind of car? alot of newer imports have shields under the filter and drain plugs, and if the oil is drained onto the shield, drips of oil will drip for awhile if the old oil is not completely cleaned off.
