Looking for help when dealer won't perform warranty work. Have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with 32,000 miles. Took it to the dealer because it didn't start smoothly. They kept it a week, replaced a fuel injector, sent me on my way. The next day it was worse than when I took it the first time. Won't start, then sputters, smokes, etc. Took it back. They said it needs all new injectors, fuel pump for $5K not covered under warranty. Took it to another dealer. They said $10K, still not under warranty. How could this not be covered under warranty? Doesn't 3 years/3K mean 3 years/36K? Help!

On my 2005 dodge Ram, I paid for replacing all fuel injectors - no warranty.  Was told water in diesel.  I've heard of other instances where no warranty for this problem.  Cost me $4,000.  Traded for an '06 Dodge Ram 3500 - just received notification from Chrysler that '06's have problem w/water in diesel and to take in for modification. hmmmmm???

I HAVE 04 DODGE 3500 WITH INJECTOR PROBLEMS.  I HAVE 90K MILES.  I TOOK IT TO ONE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. PAID $475 FOR COMPLETE TRANSMISSION, FUEL AIR & COOLANT SERVICE.  DID NOT FIX PROBLEM.  I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NOT UNDER WARRANTY.  IHAVE TURNED IT OVER TO MY INSURANCE AND THEY APPEAR TO BE PAYING FOR IT AT THIS POINT.  THE WILL GO AFTER DODGE IF THEY FEEL IS SHOULD BE WARRANTY.  DODGE SAYD THE FUEL IS CONTAMINATED, BUT THE FILTER DOES NOT SHOW AND THERE IS NOTHING IN THE COCKPIT AT THE FILTER.  IF IT HAS A WATER IN FUEL LIGHT , IT NEVER CAME ON.  I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE DIDTRICT MANAGER MADE THE DECISION THEN THE DECISION IS FINAL.  I WAS TOLD BE THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THERE WAS CERTAIN 04'S THAT HAD INJECTOR PROBLEMS AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE A LOT OF THEM ALREADY.  I AM GOING TO PERSUE THIS PROBLEM WITH CUMMINS.  MY HUSBAND HAS 20-25 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH DIESELS AND SAYS THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE UNFOUNDED. IF THE CONTAMINATIONS ARE GETTING PAST THEIR FILTER SYSTEMS  WITH THEN THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR FILTER SYSTEMS.  WE HAD A FORD DEISEL WITH OVER 400K MILES WITH THE ORIGINAL INJECTORS.  I THINK DODGE HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SYSTEMS.

The problem with these trucks is not the injectors themself it a design issue. The diesel fuel filter is a 7 micron fuel filter and the injectors will not pass anything larger than a 5 micron particle. there for there is 2 microns there that can stick the injector. there is a company that is making a 2 micron fuel filter that will stop the injector issue the Company is Glacier diesel power Or www.glacierdieselpower.com. the filter kit is 189.00 and will fix these injector issues. I own a repair facility and Dodge ingeneral are refusing to repair these vehicls, saying that the contamination in the fuel was from gas stations and they are not responcible for the problem. it is a costly repair but if you want to end these problems the glacier GTK2+ filter kit will stop the injector problem.

I have a question. I have 2004 dodge 3500 recently had problems with fuel and oil mixing, my Ins. replaced the engine with a rebuilt that had 99k miles, the truck 6 mths later done the same thing oil a fuel mix so repair facilty said it is the fuel injection pump, and again ins. paid that now 3 days into having the rebuilt pump, the oil and fuel are still mixing got any ideas?

I have an 05 ram 3500 diesel also, and when I bought it , I thought the last thing I would have a problem with was the engine,, I love the truck when it is running right and also pull trailers with it all sizes.  truck ran great, I bought it new, and ran great to about 110,000 miles, the first thing that went out was the exhaust manifold, it cracked, so I replaced it.  then shortly after the truck started shaking at idle, I have been a auto mechanic for years and thought it might be the harmonic balencer,, it ended up being the flywheel,, the flywheels are two piece and go bad after about 100,000 miles I know this because I replaced it and the second one went out after another 100,000 miles,, most the miles on my truck are freeway, but pulling trailers half the time.. Now during this time at about 150,000 miles, usually at idle, the truck would start pinging and rattling really bad and the check engine light would come on,, I would go out and drain the water from fuel, even tho there was no water in fuel light on, most the time I started it back up and it ran fine for another 2 to 3 hundred miles, when I ran the codes they came up low fuel pressure and some others. At about 180,000, I thought I would change the oil to synthetic oil to make is last longer,,,BAD IDEA,, all the sudden it used 2 gallons of oil, I changed it back and it used a gallon of oil every 200 miles,, I drove the truck to 250,000 miles this way and decided to tear it down. 5 of the 6 piston rings were broken and the number one cylinder had what appeared to be two dime size circles eaten out of the cylinder, so I took the block out and had it punched out 20 over, then went to get the parts,, they are not cheap,, pistons,, 12 hundred gaskets 5 hundred rebuilding head 450. now let me tell you the engine still ran great even with all these problems. So everyone was telling me the pump is most likely bad, but when I checked around parts places were telling me the injector pump rarely goes bad so I had the injectors checked and every injector is bad, another 205 dollars each parts are way overpriced. anyway, so all this reserch I do believe in the fuel filter problem,I will change mine to the 2 micron filter, if that will save my engine and injectors.

Not sure but have an idea.  Not real sure but I believe the injector tubes go into the side of the head and into the injector,, if the seal is bad going into the injector it might be able to dump fuel into the engine, these are a metal tubes, and connect metal to metal to the injector.  glad to help if I can, Bobby

First of all I dont believe a thing Dodge says,, I would check around and talk to friends with mechanical knowledge, and find out what diesel repair shop they recomend, some shops have something called a scan tool and they can check the entire fuel system and find out what the problem is then go from there. after they tell you and give you a price check prices from other shops to find out if you are being treated fairly. also, as far as I know the cummins engine has A 100,000 MILE WARRANTY.

I have a 07 2500 with the 5.9. Its got 72,000 miles on it and started having injector problems at 15,000 miles. It took many trips to the dealer before they found the first faulty injector. The error codes kept coming up low fuel pressure. The made me replace fuel filters 4 times and I had it in about 6 times before they narrowed it down to the injector. So when the 4th injector went out they advised me to get their injector cleaning service. Each time an injector went out the check engine light would come on. Only once did the engine ever run poorly. They also updated the computer. About a week after that my manifold heater dash light (wait to start) came on while I was driving and beeped about 4 times. A day later it came on again and then stayed on. Took it to back to the dealer. They said that it was another bad injector. The software update they did was reporting the code wrong and should have turned on the dash light. They updated the computer again and replaced the last two injectors. They also told me the injectors were very dirty and wanted me to get their injector cleaning service done. I was a little bent out of shape and told them I just paid them to do that and the injectors should be squeaky clean. Long story short, I think the Dodge injectors suck. The dealer covered all of this under warranty except the injector cleaning service. I now have all new injectors but will put some money aside for some good aftermarket injectors. I will also look into the better filters too. Hope this information helps someone. Other then injectors, I love my truck.

hello,  I found your post very interesting.  I am having so much problems with my 04 diesel.  I have had to replace some transmission parts because it would not start.  This past winter my truck had trouble starting in the winter.  I thought it was grid heater.  Replaced still had problems.  I had to keep my truck plugged in all winter inorder for me not to be stranded at work.  As of last week my truck will not start.  It turns and turns and turns but will not kick on.  I can hear the lift pump working but the truck does not come one.  sounds like engine is not getting any fuel.  I have oil leaking from underneath the valve cover however no diesel fuel in my resevior.  I have done 2 system cleans with bg product...seemed to be running well till it wouldnt start.  I am very consistent about changing fuel filters and serviceing my truck.  Do you think it is my fuel injector pump?  any help is appreciated.  I have a code machine coming today to get codes if possible.
thanks

I have had this same problem and after a lot of testing found that it was my injectors. If you find the same issue I would not buy OEM injectors. They are crap. They cant handle anything extra(like a chip...) and seem to fail easily. They are also more money then a good aftermarket injector.
