Recently I needed to replace the thermostat on my Mercury Villager. I purchased the Haynes repair manuel for years 1993 through 2001. I want to let as many people as possible know that the PICTURE 3.16 on page 3-4 showing replacement of thermostat show them replacing the thermostat backwards. Be sure to install the thermostat with the spring section going INTO THE ENGINE. This mistake cost me several hours and a lot of frustration. I have tried to contact Haynes Publishing Group but can fine no e-mail address for them.

Haynes repair manuals are all a joke I own a shop and that's what we read when we need a laugh The information in them are always vague, say too little or too much and very misleading.
I feel sorry for people like yourself that rely on something so brutal. I see on this forum that there's a lot of online places to find this information free, may want to check that next time.
