| Speed sensor & internal Cog for a 92 Buick Century | | First of all I buy disposable cars and keep 'em running. In recent years I have found the GM Front wheel drive V-6 (both the 3.3 and 3.8) to be as dependble as the Old Chrysler slant 6's because of this, in recent years, they have been my vehicle of choice.
One day while running a errand my Speed dropped to 0 .. the check engine light came on and car began to run crappy. This went on as a intermintent problem. When the Speedo worked... the car ran great .... didn't work .... check engine ... that funky cadalidic converter lean smelll and poor running ... until one day it (the speedo) had ceased to work and I was left with a car with a communication problem (I'm assuming) resulting in computor fault and poor prefoumance.
So I called the local NAPA store to find the sensor costs $70.00ish ... because I'm cheap (as discribed above in paragraph 1) .. I went to the local bone yard and pull one off the same thing 3.3, 3speed buick century. Installed it and it worked momentaraly and then dropped two zero. They said they'd exchnge for another ... but two of them bad ...I don't think so.
My question is .... I remember the Nylon Speedo gears in some of the older Gm Transmisions very simular to the Nylon gears on the bottom of the Slant 6 distibutors. They wore and a problem occoured.
Has this cog assembly been natorious for a simular problem?
Or another question is their supposed to be a bushing in the hole of the casting of the speed sensor that centers it in the housing?
And last what is the diameter of the cog ..... Is mine worn?
Thanks in advance for your help.
