i just got a 2000 wrangler and i wanted to turn it into an off road monster. it has an I6 and its a manual.  it came with a 44 dana rear axle and grocery getter tires.
i wanted to put either 33 or 35s on it, along with a 5 or 7" suspension lift.

my questions are:
- which tire/lift upgrade would work the best?
- after upgrading the tires and suspension, what should i do to the gearing and transmission? and how would i go about doing that?

any recommendations or suggestions would be awesome!
- thanks

alright i might be able to help i have a 95 Yj with a 4 inch fabtech suspention which is good but not cheap with your coil springs it makes lifts pretty expensive but i am a big fan of rough country and skyjacker they're good and they come with all the nessesary parts extended brake lins drop pitman arm and lowering transfer case not it depends on what lift you want for 35's you'll need at least a 4 inch lift and a 2 inch body for the clearence with those bad dogs i got a 4 inch with 3 inch and it looks kick *** with my 35" dunlop mud rovers cause i'm a weekend mudder but if you want 33's you'll need about a 2 inch suspension and a 2 inch body and tires i got showed up with super swamper LTB's they are great tires great traction and they're self cleaning in the mud and they're about 128$ a tire last time i checked and thats a 33/13.50/15 and they do work on 15/8 inch rims somehow then after the lift with the 4 inch lift you'll notice your slip yoke is sticking out about 2 inches so you got to get it lenghend or you'll pop ujoints but the front drive shaft will be fine the 2 inch you'll have no drive line problems...gearing your transmission is a head ach so don't worry about that you'll have to change out your ring and pinion and that depends how much wheelin you do cause for the muddin and trail ridein i do i have 4:11 gears front and rear but also are you sure that you have a dana 44 or a 35 if its completely round its a 35 if it has a v shape on the passenger side its a 44 either way the only way you'll break one is goin completely crazy or get traction aids even though you should have a posi in the rear and if you do go bigger that 31 inch tires remember this NO BURNOUTS even in the mudd cause you'll either pop a u-joint or blow the tail shaft of the transfer case and the useually means the rear mainshaft is in 2 peices which means about a 1400$ repair but after all that you'll have a good weekender...god i love talkin about this stuff...

I used to have an 01 TJ wrangler and let me tell you I miss it so much! But to help you out I think your best bet would be the 4 inch skyjacker lift. The control arms have heim joints which will help your suspension flex over all kinds of strange obstacles like small cars cough cough!

I also have a 1995 YJ with 3 inches body and 3 inches suspension. lose all the sway bars and trac bars. 36 inch TSL's on 15 x 9 American Racing wheels. I'm on stock axles and gears with open diffs and a 4 banger. I need to regear it for high range but in low range I go anywhere I want to. the only people that get away from me in low range are those with lockers. what do you have for a front axle? with a I6 you may not need gears, unless you plan on climbing Everest in it. If you do change gears 4.56's or 4.88's should be plenty with 35's. Upgrade your axle shafts to some meatier sticks. Stock shafts break easier than chromoly. Lock both diffs and trailer it to the Jamborees. But like anything else this is all personal opinion and subject to the type of terrain you like( mud, rocks, trail, Etc.). Welcome to Jeep.
