If you are considering a Jaguar, here are some of the issues I've dealt with.  I have a 2004 S Type with the V6 purchased new from the dealer.  The engine had a surge in it when I purchased it new.  (Engined would surge around 35 mph) Took it to the dealer, they said it was a software problem and they claimed they fixed it.  Problem is, the surge only occured when I drove it the first time in the mornings.  They did not fix the problem.  Took it back, told them again, claimed they fixed it but they didn't.  I had a small anti-freeze leak.  Took it in, they said they had to tighten a hose and claimed they fixed it.  They didn't.  Took it back.  Said it was a hose clamp.  Claimed they fixed it.  They didn't.  Took it back.  Finally, they said it was a hose assembly and replaced it and that fixed it.  Tires were loud from day one.  The dealer said that was normal.  At 10,000 miles the tires were shot.  Front end was out of alignment.  Payed $160.00 to have the front end aligned and $650.00 for new tires.  The sun glass compartment door wouldnt' stay shut from day one.  Every time I took the car in for service, I told them.  They said they fixed it.  Never did.  Still falls down and I just pretty much leave it that way now unless I want to use some bubble gum to make it stay shut.
The front Jaguar emblem came unglued and fell off.  The dealer was supposed to order a new one and call me.  Never has so far.  The screws fell out of the access cover under the dash on the passenger side and the entire cover fell off in the floor.  Had tires rotated at 20,000 miles.  At 33,000 the tires are shot again, and the back brake rotors are metal to metal and the front pads are very thin.  Couldn't get it in the dealer to get it repaired so I had to take it to a brake company.  Costing me $840.00 for the two new back rotors, new back pads and having the front rotors turned and new pads.  Need new tires but am going to put it off for a bit. Have an appointment with the dealer to get some of these items taken care of but I don't have alot of confidence that I will get it 100%.  I was thinking of trading for a 2006 but maybe I will look in another direction now possibly a Lexus or Lincoln.  I love the look of the Jaguar but they just aren't built very well.  Well, at least the one I have doesn't seem to be.

OK, Here's an up date.  My Jag now has 52,000 miles.  I just bought a new set of tires ($580).  The two front tires were ruined, as one of them was showing cords due to the front end not being in alignment.  Now I have to take it and have another front end alignment not to mention now there is some kind of squeeking noise going on which I pray it is not the brakes again.  The car still surges so it's beginning to look more and more like I may need to trade this one in as it is costing me over $1500.00 a year in maintenance which doesn't include oil changes and tire rotations.

Damn, Sharfire. Thanks for sharing. I was considering the S-Type as a future vehicle. Now I'm not so sure again.

UPDATE ON 2004 JAGUAR
Finally had all I could take of the added expense of the maintenance on my Jag.  After my last round of tire buying, front end aligning, brake job, etc., I traded her in for a 2004 Commemorative Edition Corvette.  Got pretty close to what I owed on the Jag as a trade-in.  I put a little cash in to pay it off ($3000).  The Vette had 8000 miles and was just like new inside and out.  I am happy with it so far and although I loose the extra passenger space and trunk space, I haven't lost any gas mileage, and it's really no noiser than my Jag was and the ride is much more intense.  The Vette handles soooo much better than the Jag and no comparison to the speed factor. I've turned over 15,000 on the Vette and the tires are still good, no front end alignment problems, brakes are still perfect and no mechanical problems.  Shoulda bought the Vette first.  Live and learn.

Well it does sound like you had a few more problems than you should have, but I mean, it's a Jag, you don't buy them to run

It sounds like half your problem was a bad dealer. Most of your problems sound very fixable. With a good dealer I think you would have had a much better experience with the car. 33K out of set of brakes isn't too bad by the way. It's unfortunate, but it sounds like you made the right move getting out of the car.

Good luck with the Vette, it is a completely different car than the Jag, but it soudns like you have figured that out already. I already know that if I had a Vette i would be going through tires like water, but thats me. Have fun eith the new car.
