About 3 months ago I noticed when I stopped and then accelerated fast I had a large thump coming from the trans area. Recently while driving at normal speed car seemed to change gears excessively and thump numerous times. When in neutral at a complete stop when I rev the engine the car seems to travel forward slowly and thump noise in trans area. Any Ideas? My neighbor said it was probably my "low reverse gear" gone bad. I have never heard of this gear. Thanks for your help.

It could be your govenor or pump going bad.
