Hi I have recently decided to buy new speakers for my car which is a 1999 Chevorlett Geo Prizm.  I know what sizes I need and all that but I am having trouble with removing the old ones to replace with the new ones.  The trouble is I do not know how to do it.  All of the sites I have looked at online do not help me.  I really need help on the rear and I can remove the door panel for the front but can not get the speakers out.  I do not want to damage anything so if someone could please help me out  I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you!

The speakers should be held in place with screws. Since you say that you can get the door panel off, then you should be able to loosen the speakers from the doors by unscrewing the screws which are holding them in place. As for the rear speakers, same thing. The cover is probably being held in place with screws. Find the screws, unscrew with a  screwdriver, lift off the cover and then loosen the screws holding the speaker in place and lift out the speaker.

Right thank you but the only thing is that the speaker seems to be held in place with some type of weird screws if you can even call them that.  The "screws" have a little hole in the middle so I can't exactly screw them off and I don't know if they just pop off or what.  Also the rear deck speakers have a cover that I think should just pop off and give me access to the speakers but I am afraid of how much force to use because I was applying what I thought should be plenty of force but it wouldn't pop off.  Am I correct in assuming that it should just pop right off?

You probably need a specific type of screwdriver to take out the speakers. My suggestion is for you to contact a Chevrolet dealership and ask the service department about this. They should be able to tell you what kind of screwdriver to use and whether the covers in the rear just pop off.

Those srews may actually be rivets. If there are circular holes in the center of the "screw" then it is a riviet. The only way to remove a rivet is by using a drill and drilling out the "cap" or "head" of the rivet. Make sure not to use to large of a drill bit or you won't be able to put the new speakers in. I would start with a 1/8th drill bit and see if that works.

If it is star-shaped or heagonal (stop sign shaped) then a special srewdriver is needed. A $10-$15 black and decker screwdrived kit from Home depot may work. I just bought one at home depot, I think it cost $10 and it was a ratchet kit. It is very handy for all types of projects on the auto or around  your pad.

That is very helpful I think that I will try that.  Thank you!
