I'm having some problems diagnosing my A/C system hope someone can help. I have a 95 Mazda MX6, just bought it so I don't know the history. The A/C was blowing chilly but not cold. Started to add freon and noticed that the low side was running about 76psi. So, I evac'd the system, blew air through all the lines and replaced the EV and Drier. The compressed air seemed to blow through everything with no trouble, except the evaporator, which did create some resistance.

After reconecting everything and adding oil, I drew the system, (high and low), down to about 25 and attempted to gas charge the suction and discharge sides. That proved fruitless, neither side would take a charge and remained in a vacume state. I then closed the high side and proceeded to liquid fill the suction line. For the first few minuetes nothing would come out of the can. Finally and very slowly the can began to empty. I was only able to fill 1 & 1/2 12oz cans, my system wouldn't take any more.

Final pressure readings were 68/250 with an ambient temp around 90deg. Suction line is warm to the touch and center vent blows about 80 deg +/- 4 with a very slight chill. I bled enough refridgerant out to bring the pressures down to 44/210. The suction line is still warm and the center vent now blows at about 83 deg +/- 5.

Does this sound like a restriction or a bad compressor? Or is it something else? I'm very confused any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the expansion valve is bad. It is restricting some.
