Surfborg: This is all a personal decision. I for one can't afford a new car from ANY car company. That being said. I still prefer american cars over others. I just like the way american cars look. Ford... they are slipping. The Mustang I like. I dont like the new Taurus (Disguised Five Hundred) The Focus has been butt ugly. I could get into the Fusion if they would bring out a 2 door version. Of all the foreign makes, Mazda has the most that would interest me. I like the looks of the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6 sport wagons. Why can't Ford bring back an updated rear wheel drive Pinto?? The best car I've ever owned was a '79 Pinto. It would start every time. Drive through the deepest snow that would scare the front wheelers. I miss the good old cars.
Have you ever seen or driven a Ford Mondeo or a Ford FPV F6? These are proof that Ford can design a decent car, just not in Detroit. They come from the U.K. and Australian branches of Ford. Especially the FPV F6 is a true high-performance car, not a pseudo wannabe like the Mustang.

Sure American companies and American workers are able to design and manufacture good cars - just not in Detroit. We drove 2 decent vehicles on vacation last December: an Alabama-built Mercedes 320CDI SUV in Switzerland, and a Ford Mondeo sedan in the Czech Republic. Both were good...

Honda Jazz in SE Asia = Honda Fit in the U.S. and Japan. I drive it Thailand.
530d is a BMW 5-series (E60 chassis) with a 3-liter turbodiesel engine. I drive it in Europe. 380lb-ft and 30 mpg fuel economy (match THAT, Detroit). You will not see it in the States. The bulk of the American car buyers are too dumb and too stuck in the past, thinking diesel engines belong in tractors and trucks.

I'm sorry, are you dumb? They have more power? Where did you pull that completely off target statement from? The big clunky crap motors the domestics have on average actually produce less power, more emmisions but the engines themselves are larger...it's called crap technology, or inefficiancy. The imports rock the domestics with smaller motors. And if we're talking trucks with bigger motors both domestic and import, read up, the most powerful 1/2 ton hands down, and class leading everything, 0 competition, is the toyota tundra....the days of the crap domestics are over, finally cars with interiors made of cheap plastic and therefore overpriced...are gone. The bottom line is, they pay their factory workers so much damn money that when the price is worked out that money could've been put towards the vehicle, in turn increasing it's quality, but its not, its shelled out to overpaid factory workers who are making more money than the people trying to purchase the vehicles, for imports that money saved on wages is put towards the vehicle....end result?????? A MUCH NICER PRODUCT...PEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACEEEEEEEEEEE, oh and don't post stuff if you're clueless as to what you're talking about...it's annoying.

The Tundra has a 5.7 same as the dodge ram.How much more are you paying for the extra 36 horsepower? And the main reason a auto worker costs so much more in America is the health benefits.Right now the Japanese have a slight edge but that will change again. The original tundra couldn't get out of its own way.The culture of the American car was always based on a heavy couchlike ride.It will take more time to completely adapt. However i dont like when Americans look their nose up at people who buy foreign cars. The American car companies believe in capitalism when it works in their favor but they cried when foreign competition hurt them.Well I believe in capitalism too thats why im going to by the best value for my money regardless of who makes the car.

Who’s at fault for the American automobile industry collapsing to the point it needs to turn to the government for help! Well if you really look at the problem everyone is. The government is for allowing so many imports vehicles in to our country, with out considering the out come of what will happen to the American cars. The public for forgetting where they live, work, and play freely (in America), the automobile manufacture for not thinking about the American public. When they were building vehicles like they were toy model cars. Now we have a president that says he will save jobs and get the economy going to put people back to work. But the government forces the American manufactures to close car dealerships, down size the plants. Putting serve hundreds of thousands of people out of work that have survived off, The American automobile business. What did they do for the import vehicles sold in this country? They are forcing American car dealers to open more import dealerships. Pushing the American plant worker to find work for the import manufacture in this country. How does this help the American automobile business in this country? Where we employ and keep the tax payers money in this country. Instead of shipping it to Japan or Korea. The government took the American publics tax dollars to help out the American built vehicle companies, on the same hand forced Americans to help build sell and open more import dealerships in this country off our tax dollars. How have we helped the American economy by allowing the government to do this????? The government, the public, the manufacture needs to think about this country America and stop thinking about greed. Every import vehicle sold; bought and built in this country will keep bring down the American automobile industry. Which we all know that the down turn of the automobile industry affects the American economy.

I saw your comment and I completely disagree. I have been an American Car owner for verry very very long. In fact, the only reason I bought american, was because it was the cheapest basically. I have owned a Dodge Dart, Ford Escort, 5 Chevrolet Astro Vans, and 1 Chevrolet Malibu as american cars. Basically, from my point of view, im VERY VERY VERY dissapointed. When I bought my toyota corolla, and not to mention the tacoma, i noticed that i hardly ever ever ever had to change parts. Ny friend had a toyota camry 18 years old. The only reason why he abandonded that car was because he crashed that car sooo bad.
So ill be clear with my conclusion of my car experiences. Not all asian cars are bad, but not all are good. The only good asian cars are hyundai(with kia) toyota(lexus and scion) honda(with acura) and nissan. Mitsubishi, and Suzuki still have work to do. Those do not buy. Those i agree, they are horrible cars!
American car companies, just dont make quality cars. They make popular cars OOOOO I WANT A MUSTANG!!! or "DAM THAT NICE CORVETTE", or "DODGE CHALLENGERRR!!!!!!". Toyota...(get the toyota prius, very fuel efficient!) honda(get teh honda civic, very fuel efficient vehicle too) and nissan(this one has always had expensive cars until today that match the pricees of other american craqs to compete and so far they are winning)
