I have a 68' Ford Mustang, and even though it's my first it is hands down the best car I have had and have ever driven in. My car is only made up of 3 basic things: rubber, vinyl, and steel, with the occasional aluminum engine parts. Not a fake car, the only reason cars became fake is that the public desired them to be so. After 380,000 miles the old, tired 289 was pulled and the whole drivetrain was rebuilt. A HiPo 331 w/450 horsepower was put in the car, and the car was reinforced to handle it (this was all done before I got it). The car is very pleasing to the eye and looks pretty mean. I've shut-up quite a few forign cars with it. I have taken corners at 80+ mph and have not worried about loosing control. I will keep this car for the rest of my life if upcoming college dosen't make me get rid of it. For an almost 40 year old car, that is pretty good. That is American at its finest

ben berlinsky: I agree that the 90's japanese cars had america by the throat, but now the 3 US car makers are catching up. The styling is definitely catching up (in my opinion) and the reliability has always been good-go ahead and say they suck, but 2 and only 2 cars have been documented to 1 million miles - both american, and our personal silverado has nearly 300000 on the original engine, and a friend of ours has 465000 on his.

Also dont compare a ferari, lamborghini, or rolls royce to the american manufacturers, because the most expensive american car doesnt cost as much as the cheapest one of those.

I think its funny how people say they suck to bad, well next time your car breaks down, take a good look at who makes the tow truck thats towin it into the shop.
Actually a mercedes lasted over 2 million miles, a some over 1 million.

I am an engineer, have been on construction sites for years, and the reason that ford trucks are the best selling is because they are the best. The young construction managers coming out of college are the only people that drive imports on the sites, (for a short time) but after a few months of abuse and repairs, they all end up buying american

do me a favor, drive around for an entire day, keep count of all of the cars built in the 1980's and early 1990's. I will bet that you will have a large list of american cars, and maybe if you are lucky, you will find "a" japanese car. you will almost never see a 1980's *** car for sale, but yet, you will see old american cars for sale all of the time. keep that in mind while you are supporting japan not America

This message is directed at American Man. Why do you have to resort to name calling? It anyone here is a jerk it's you.
American cars suck, live with it. Approximately 40% of American car parts are NOT made in America. If American cars are so good why are there more Japanese cars on the road? Don't answer because of price. Japanese and now Korean [Hyundai] cars are now made in America. They are far better than the American crap. True that once in a while a good one comes off the line, provided it was made Tues, Wed or Thur. Monday and Friday cars are nightmares. And what about the Ford Crown Victoria that explodes when rear ended. Ford swears nothing is wrong, tell it to the many State Troopers widows. What about the pre '80's Caddys that rusted. Some Einstein wrote about getting parts, well a remote for a 1999 Ford 150 costs $600 at the dealer [NOT INSTALLED]. You can get 1 for $125.00 INSTALLED. Who cares if it's made in Tawian, it looks and works exactly the same as the Ford one. And who knows where the Ford one was made, after all American doesn't manfacturer much anymore. All you flag wavers are hypocrites. Take a look at almost everything you buy, ie clothes, furniture etc. are all made OVERSEAS. Do you look for and buy American, I doubt it because for one thing it's almost impossible to find. If you do find American made the price is astronomical and the quality isn't really much better. Addressing the German cars, I would not buy one. I'm not one for status symbols and that's what they are. VW's suck since the original Beetle is not made for the US. Take a good look at the Mercedes C class, crap. Take a look at the SUV, more crap and it's made in America. I'm going to quit now, but I'll be back.

Right on Queengrl. In 1972 when we had the first gas price increase, the Big 3 automakers decided it was better to add more gadgets and make the same junk they had been for years. Re-tooling was too expensive. Thank GOD for that, it was then people started to discover that the Japanese car was not only great, it was better than great. The rest is history. There a terrific book to read about the car industry, it's "The Reckoning" by David Halberstam. The author is key as there are other book with the same title and are a difference subject...

I do know the american dollar is not doing real good right now and if our economy gets worst alot of the people who want to send there money to japan wont have to worry about what kind car they drive .they will be trying to keep there houses from going into forcloser if they have one. as far as *** cars being built here the profits still go there so i will continue to buy american

I only drive American cars because they're good cars. Dependable. Well made. I've been driving them for over 30 years and never had a problem with quality. I don't know where people get the idea that Japansese cars are so superior. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Japanese car. I think people who drive Japanese cars are ignorant, selfish, and traitors.

Right ON!!!!! I agree with everything! It is not I hate Toyota or other Foriegn Cars, its that they are killing my area, I live near Lansing Michigan. Toyota's may be built in america, BUT not only do they employ a small amount of people, but where do the profits go? Thats Right Japan Never to be seen again! email me at jweseman@gmail.com

Ouch! Depending on what American car you actually drive, you might eat crow if you knew just how much of it was actually American made.

hm. it would appear that we have some people who don't have a clue about cars are talkin outta their ass. American cars are better on road and off road, not to mention how much cheaper they are compared to those european cars. on road, the LS7 can be bought in a corvette Z06 for 65k. it runs a 10.85 in the quarter stock. the world's fastest production car (the veyron bugatti) ran a 10.2. it has over 1000 hp. it costs around 1.5 million to buy and 10 mil to make. the W16 design of the engine gives it 16 cylnders along with 4 turbos. and the stock LS7 which is naturaly aspirated runs a 10.85. sad. for the extra 1,440,000 you would save from buying a bugatti you could buy some upgrades for the LS7. add a blower and cold air intake. it wouldn't take much to make it faster than the gugatti. the top speed of the veyron is 252. the Z06 is 202. not as fast as the bugatti but again, with the money you save, i'm sure you can find a way to add some speed
And american vehicle superiority isn't limited to just the pavement. the original AM general hummer is the best off road vehicle ever created. With geared hubs, positive four wheel drive on demand and central tire inflation operational while driving, in addition to runflat devices, there isnt another streetable four wheel drive vehicle on earth that can compare to it. There are several instances of military hummers(in Iraq and afghanistan) continuing to operate with one or two wheels being blown completly off... with the combination of geared hubs and positive 4 wheel drive(which is identical to the civilian AM General Hummer) the vehicle moves with just one wheel on the ground. i'd like to see any foreign car brag that

read below you foreign lovin piece of ***
My friend took me out in his Dodge Neon SRT-4 yesterday. Until now, I am still amazed by its turbo's pull. He has modified his SRT-4 to 350+WHP and he had a full tank of 100 octane gas ($6 a gallon!). The SRT-4 had so much power that it needed traction all the way from 1st gear to 2nd gear and 2nd gear to 3rd gear! Last night was actually my first experience in a turbo car (16.9 Psi). I have been in an E46 M3 and S55 AMG before, but neither of them delivered such a rush! I have a lot of respect for the Neon SRT-4 now. It was easy to mod to gain a lot of power and most of all it's a Neon that can smoke cars that cost 3-4 times its price!
