OK so I have this 1990 Sunbird SE it gets me to work and my kids to football practice that’s about it. About 3 weeks ago it totally over heated to the point of shutting it self down and I had to add coolant and limp it home. upon inspection it appeared to be leaking from the water pump area.. Which to replace the water pump on this car is no small task.. The pump itself new was only 40$ but i don’t have the right tools or the time. So I take it to the local mechanic and end up paying around $500 for the repair which included new belts and hoses. When the guy calls to tell me its fixed he mentions that it was billowing blue smoke (burning oil) suddenly but he didn’t notice any thing before the work had been done and wondered if i had noticed anything like that previously.. I had not. Needless to say he told me not to worry that running on the freeway a bit should clear it up. Well it did not. currently the car is defiantly continuing to burn oil not really noticeable unless i let it idle for 5-10 min then its like stage fog at a metal concert and the compression while driving is extremely low especially after the car warms up a bit. I am guessing this is a really bad sign. I can’t afford major repairs or to get another car for a few months. I have tried various oil additives that claim to improve compression and minimize burning but they don’t seem to help all that much. Does any one know of a band-aid type fix or can recommend something that might keep this thing from completely dieing until i can afford to get a real repair or a new car...
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long winded and poorly edited post.chemas-microsoft-com ffice ffice" />>> > >

Sounds like you have got the rings so hot they have lost tension, sorry but your choices are limited. Don't spend any more money on this car, just look for another beater.
