I have a 1985 bronco II that is stuck in 4L. When I engaged it the 4L light came on and engaged then the 2L light started flashing. I have tried pushing the buttons at least a thousand times to no avail. I have also tried unplugging the motor for awhile, and also tapping on it repeatedly with someone pushing the buttons. My first question is what could the problem be and how can I get it out of 4 wheel so it can be driven. Any help is greatly appreciatted

Most of the time the shift motor gets stuck, if nothing is broke in the transfer case you can remove the shift motor and use an adjustable wrench and shift it manually, you might need to put transmission in netural and on flat ground with someone helping you by rocking truck back and forth while trying to shift case out of 4-wheel. Be careful you don't get run over! You can also jack up rearend and try to shift while rolling wheels.
