It started two days ago.  When trying to start the Kia it would only click a relay under the dash.  Dash lights and radio LED dimmed at same time.  Removed and cleaned battery posts, charged the battery. Took out cleaned and checked all the fuses and two large relays in fuse box under hood.  All good.   It started and did so for a day and a half.  About 7-8 starts.

Now it's back to the same problem.  Only clicks the relay under the dash.  Check engine light stays on.

Any Ideas?
 

Have your battery load tested and your charging system checked. If ti is a factory battery then that is probably your problem.  

i have a 99 Kia Sophia and has same problem..Battery, alternator, starter all test fine but on out of 20-50 tries it starts... Im told possably ignition switch in colum or cam sensor/crank sensor... the dear says they will tell me whats wrong but want to charge me alot to look at it...
 

I have the exact same problem/symptoms with my 99 KIA Sportage EX.  The dealer wanted to replace the starter, but a friend and I did it in a hour for less than (of course you say!) half the price.  I thought the starter was the problem, because once in a while it sounded like it just wasn't getting the juice it needed to crank. But the problem persists.  I can feel the relay clicking under the dash, so will try and check it out this weekend.  My battery is fine and the lights and other electrical work fine.  Any help would be much appreciated.

i found a mechanic who added a ford started cylnoid to by pass my kia one and my car starts everytime now ill give list his phone number so you can get exact details from him.. he knew excatly what to do to fix my problem and was cheap fix that works GREAT...(915) 821-7277 Show -N-Go Automotive there located in El Paso, TX at  9660 Dyer St 79924
