Everyone should also refer to the

2004-2006 RX-8 Powertrain Warranty Extention Program SSP 67 dated Aug 06.

The program extends the warranty on all 04-06 RX-8's to 5 years, 60.000 miles. The program also has provisions for reimbursement for anyone that has already incurred costs to repair/replace the engine. The package I received includes the necessary claim forms.

For questions call Customer Assistance 800-222-5500 and select option 4

Yes we live in vegas and bought our RX8 2004 car from Courtesy Imports in Henderson in 2003.
Last August (06) we had stalling problems after about one month of the car on hold at the dealer (They did provide a rental at no cost), and they did replace the engine getting the car back in the first weeks of September (06). In the last week of May (07) our car has died twice now and my wife no longer wants to drive it.
Courtesy dealer seem to be giving me good information blaming MAZDA for the slow response. It looks like it going to happen all over again. We are glad this is a lease, because of the blogs on this site I would worry about selling the car. Yes my wife loves this car but is now afraid of it.

Okay so I have read through a lot of the post the bottom line is when they change the engine does that correct the problem.  We have a 2004 and having the same problem.  Is in t=with the dealer now in Florida and they said they have to contact the main office and tell them everything they did so far and that it didn't work, and do they want them to change the engine.  The dealer told me that the new engines have the problem fixed?  Thanks Bill

Well if they just worked on it shouldnt be leaking any oil!  Let them know and take it right back to them and explain it wasnt leaking when you brought it in to them...............

Well I am glad I waited this long and I can buy one of these great chassis for cheaper than a 93-95 twin turbo RX7!!YAY!!
Now I can buy your problem RX-8's and make them into race cars.
If anybody is interested in selling me their rx8 running or not let me know!
Also I can replace your RX-8 MSP motor with a Twin turbo or single turbo built motor that will start reliably, let me know!!

Bought a RX-8 for my son and within one week it stalled as he pulled into traffic and was hit by a SUV. It did almost $9,000 in damage!!! It was in the body shop three weeks and when we got it back, they said we shouldn't have a problem. On the ride home it cut off again and we took it right back to the dealer. They kept it about two more weeks and when we got it back it happened again less than a week later. Took it back in and they replaced all of the spark plugs and parts of the ingnition system, got it back and you guessed it - it stalled again within two days. They kept it two more weeks and said there was a loose wire, fixed that and within two days of getting it back it stalled twice in the same day. I am going to call Mazda corporate now to try to get something done. We bought the car in April (it is now mid August) and it has been in our driveway less than three weeks. I'll let you know what happens!

You need to have them replace the engine.  We kept taking ours back to one dealer and they kept giving us the run around like you changing different things that didn't work and finally we took it to a different dealer in our area and they were great.  They knew of the engine problem as they replaced some others.  Well they replaced the engine and the car never ran so good and no more problems.  Insist that they replace the engine, or contact the main office and I think they will take care of the problem.  But I will tell you now there is no fix other than changing the engine..

I would be very interested in getting involved in a class action against Mazda. Please keep me posted.

There are about 7 of us from another thread who have sent our info to the O'Quinn Law Firm #713-223-1000 in hopes of a class action lawsuit.    They are in Houston.  I have emailed stacya@oqlaw.com but have not received a response yet (it hasn't even been 24 hours though). Also - send your RX-8 history and issues to studentlaw2006@hotmail.com

I am in Oklahoma - same problems as everyone else with my 05 RX-8 (20k miles).  They replaced 4 coils and I pick it up today.  I guess I have just entered the same rollercoaster everyone else is on.

Well it has been over a month since the dealer replaced the engine, and no problems.  The car never ran as good as it does now.  So I would again say the only fix is the replacement of the engine, and Mazda is well aware of the problem.  If you are having trouble with the dealer try a different one or I would contact the main office to get some results

Hi. I'm wondering what has become of this (potential) action. My mom owns one of these RX-8s and has had the same problems many have described. Her engine has already been replaced, but the car is still stalling. Today it stalled on her way from the dealership to her office, after being "repaired" yet again. She no longer wants anything to do with it and doesn't feel safe in it. Mazda won't play ball, so we're ready to try to pursue legal action.

I am happy your mazda is running good. I had a 2004 rx8 and it had the engine and the transmission replaced as well as many other thing's changed or replaced.
I was so sick of spending more time at the dealership than driving that piece of junk. (worst service I have ever experienced)
I will not even let someone who owns a mazda park in my driveway.
I have traded it in for a toyota and I will never look back.

I hate to tell you this, Bill, but replacing the engine doesn't guarantee anything.  I did it at 22,000 miles and the new engine ( in hot weather) stalled out at 28,000.  There are a lot of us on here who'll tell you the same thing.  I'm sure there are original engines that haven't had the problem, and I'm sure there are rebuilt engines (that's what you got and I got) which haven't had problems, but calling it a "fix" is presumptive, especially since Mazda can't explain why this problem happens in the first place.  Besides, what does one month prove?
