Just thought I'd chip in and give you all my experience with my husband's 2004 RX-8 (which only has 15K miles). We have had similar problems, engine flooding, not starting, rough start, etc. Finally, I decided to check into the lemon law and currently, I have an offer from Mazda to buy back the car. They are giving us every payment we have made back, our deposit back, paying off the car, less a mileage deduction. I don't know what that amount is yet, but at this point...we just want to get rid of this car! My husband is in the military and it's been quite inconvenient when he gets up to leave at 5 am to go to work and his car doesn't start and he has to take MINE. I on the other hand have the Mazda6 and it's a wonderful car. I agree with everyone here...I don't think its Mazda, I think its the rotary engine concept. They need to pull the RX8 off the market, just like they did the RX7. Good luck to all.

I too live in NM and am just starting discussion w/mazda on a buyback. Had my engine replaced at 14000 miles, still almost stalls when idles and they want me to add a quart of oil every other time I fill the tank. Unreasonable in my mind. What was your re--purchase offer from Mazda? Have you decided to sue? If Mazda will not stand behind their product and provide adequate customer care, I may be seeking legal action as well.

Maxda's by-back proposal to my friend was paying the last 6 months of car note, plus about $21,000 minus mileage at about 41 cents per mile. My friend took it. I suggest people bring this forum discussion into the dealership, send it to Mazda, and GO GET YOUR MONEY BACK!
Hey guess what, my friend took the money, went on Lemon Lane, which is where all the town's car dealerships are lined up, bought a Honda Accord, and the next day the transmission light came on. Brought it back, and it was that a sensor came disconnected. The car is running ok now, so far. When you sign a contract to buy a car, you're stuck with it!!

I had a rx7,rotary, 185,000 miles,no problem,most fun car i have ever owned,also just bought a 1993 twin turbo.
on your rx8 ,when it gets flooded, which happens to rotary engines alot, unplug the efi, (electronic fuel fuse, should say efi)OR ASK A MECH,WHICH ONE.BUT YOU NEED TO LEARN THIS YOURSELF!!
this will turn off the fuel pump.
then spin your engine about 5 spins, let your starter, battery cool (count to 20 or so) then repeat this about 3 to 5 times, (THIS WILL GET RID OF GAS INSIDE ROTARY CHAMBER,UNFLOOD IF YOU WIL) then replug your efi fuse, under the hood, car will now start(if its like the old ones) THIS FIX MADE OWNING MY RX7 WORTH WHILE,BETTER TO KNOW THIS!!!

I own a 2005 RX8. less than 12,000 miles. I havent had my car in 78 days. I had the engine replaced but when I was told that they were not SURE of the problems and that engine replacement may or may no fix it I REFUSED to take the care back. I then spent a month being told that the dealership would trade the car in and give me a NEW MODEL that was equivalent to my old one.. SOUND GREAT... WRONG! They will gladly trade the car in but then I HAVE TO start over on payments on a newer more expensive vehicle and I GET TO EAT the cost that Ive already paid on my notes. You would think with 1,000 of the *** cars having the engines replaced they would be alittle more understanding. I WILL NEVER BUY MAZDA AGAIN!.. I suggest everyone contact there local new station.. many have investigators on the NEWs who love to do stories on consumers who get jerked over. With enough media attention im sure mazda will step up to the plate..

Currently I am battling with my dealer, with the same issues..stalling not starting, leaving me stranded 6 times in 5 months. They are willing to trade me another vehicle, but are screwing me in the deal.
If they do not make this right soon, I would be interested in the suit. They failed to inform me that the prior ownly also had the car towed into their dealership several times as well.
If you can advise me please email me at diannastreet@hotmail. com....any info is welcomed
Thanks

What is the status of your lawsuit? My 2004 Rx8 won't start for the 4the time in 2 years. I have 54,000 miles, so the Lemon Law is not an option for me. But, I am tired of bending over and taking it, and I am starting to consider my legal options.

I am in Wayne, NJ. I would be interested in any info you have re suit. My 2004 Rx8 failed to start (12/25/06) for the 4th time in 2 years. Have had the typical repairs (upgraded plugs, battery, starter) but the problem obviously persists. My car has 54000 miles.
thank you.

I am a lawyer in Wayne, NJ and an Rx8 Lover/Hater.
I have 54,000 miles on my 2004. Today, 12/25/06, for the 4th time in two years, the car would not start. I have had the "typical" repairs (i.e., upgraded spark plugs, battery, starter) and I have tried to remember as often as possible to rev the car briefly before shutting the engine.
Please let me know the name/address/phone number of your attorney.
Thank you.

I now have 04 RX8 at the dealer. It would not start for the 3rd Time, I only have 13,500 miles on it. I have had the car towed twice and had the spark plugs replaced, ect. Now Mazda agreed to look at it again, Is there anything I can do in Kentucky to get this car Taken back as a lemmon or any lawsuit pending. Let's all get together and make Mazda fix the problem

Anyone in North Carolina having problems? I have 20,000 miles on my car. It has had to have a new transmission and as of 2 weeks ago, a new engine! Not to mention the recalls. This is not acceptable. I have contacted Mazda today and they said they will get back to me...not holding my breath. I would love to hear from another NC owner and find out what your results have been. Thanks!

Never mind. Traded the car in today. To those of you still dealing with the issues, best of luck to you. Hope your issues get resolved soon. It is not fun making car payments and insurance payments on a car that spends more time with the dealer than in your garage.

dont have same problem, currently have to replace clutch 25000 miles, only 3 mos left on lease they say normal wear & tear, i say shouldn't need new clutch at 25000 miles
don't ride clutch, don't stop with clutch, use brakes, have had other issues
any other clutch problems out there with low mileage?
have extended warranty, of course doesn't cover

Just finished working for a Mazda dealership in Tucson. When I got there, there were no less than 12 RX-8's on the lot needing extensive work, if not engine replacements. It has been 6 months and RX-8's are still flowing in for repairs due to problems with spark plugs, relays, batteries, fuel pumps, starters, etc. And the cars are in there for a least a week, if not more, mainly because of the shortage of certified technicians to work on the quantity arriving for repairs. This is an industry wide problem. But, I will say that it would not be a problem if it were not for the RX-8. It is so bad that even the Mazda folks in Chandler AZ would not recognize it when providing a training class on the new CX-9. Mentioned every Mazda car but the RX-8. I think they are even embarrassed. The best route for owners to take is to visit the Service Manager, and file for buy back. Also, contact your State AG office. make sure to have all records of repairs on file and ready for submission. Also, contact Mazda to indicate what you are planning to do.
