I have had my 2004 Mazda RX-8 for two years now and am having the same problems.  Bought from Carmax used in '06.  Had problem since about a month after I bought it.  About 51K miles on it when I bought it. About 60K on it now. Have extended warranty through Carmax that is worthless.  I've paid to have the car "repaired" 8 times now where they've sent it to the Mazda dealership and replaced 3 batteries, Battery Terminals, spark plugs twice, Coils once, and an Alternator as well as reflashed ECM several times.  At one point the Mazda service center told me the engine was bad and needed to be replaced but were unable to get approval from Mazda so they replaced the coils instead.  It is currently back in their shop.  

I just replaced my started, paid 350 + 89 + tax at the dealer it is a modify upgraded start aand  comes with two new sparks.....Runs great now!!  

Have you had problems with the car flooding all of the time?  Mine is towed in several times a year because of this.  It went out of factory warranty last April at 30,000 miles.  Now the dealership says that I have to pay around $500 each time it floods to have it deflooded.  Mazda says it is not a defect with the car.  They say is is because of warm up and cool down methods, which were never explained to me at all by the dealership or service center.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with engine replacement, but I'm ready to look into legal action also.  I am stuck with a car with low mileage, which I still owe money on, that I need to send an 18 year old off to college in, which isn't reliable.  I can't believe that Mazda would expect consumers to tolerate this.  

I have a 2004 RX-8 with high miles. I have been having some problems with. When I had a diagnostic ran to find out the problem it turns out that it was due to low compression. They had told me that it was my Apex seals wearing down. I have fixed that problem and know it for what ever reason it likes to shut down on me after about 10-15mins. of running it. I cant figure out what is causing the engine failure. If there is anyone that knows quite a bit about the RX-8 engine and might have some clue to why the engine would be doing this...your imput would be appreciated  

Im having the same problem with my 2004 RX8 plus steering really hard.  What kind of action are you taking against Mazda.

hey man did u really sue mazda? what happened? i been having problems with my rx8 too i had 2 engine replace and after that they sold me another one and im still having problems with it. please contact me asap may be both can go again mazda and get out money back because i spend almos $38 on a car that right now doesn even start, so please contact me and i will help you going agains masda. shinka83@hotmail.com thats my email i hope to heard from u soon
