I have the same problem with my 06 Sienna XLE AWD, the sensors do not work with Run Flat Tire for model before 07. Toyota installed additional sensor for model after 06. My diver rear tire bursted into pieces on I95, because there is no indication of flat and I drove till it bursted. Toyota is not going to repair this problem

Don't you know that the Tire Pressure Warning Light does not work on Sienna with Run-Flat-Tire for model before 07?

I am new to this board, I hope I do it right.
Did anyone encounter problem of RFT air pressure sensor failure for 06 Sienna?
I was told by Toyota that the sensor does not work with any RFT Sienna before 07 model, it only works with regular tires. They have installed additional sensor to work with RFT Sienna after 06.
I was driving from Orlando to NY on Saturday 9/13/08 with my 06 Sienna XLE AWD, my driver side rear tire was totally flat and bursted into pieces when I reached South Carolina. There was no indication of low pressure, and the tire pressure I checked at Orlando gas station was about 35 psi. My van was towed and replaced with a regular tire.
I make a complaint to the Toyota manufacturer. The answer I get is that sensor is not working with RFT on 06 Sienna.
One of the advantage with RFT is that you can still drive more than 50 miles to get tire cahnged. But, without the sensors, it is really hard to tell that you are going to have a flat and you will easily drive over 50 miles till it bursted.
Any suggestions?

Our experience with the Toyota Sienna run-flat tires has been like the rest. We bought our 2004 Sienna AWD van new and at almost 30,000 we will be replacing the runflat tires for the SECOND time! The Dunlop tires are frightening. They wear to a bald condition very prematurely, create a lot of vibration and road noise. By comparison, I just replaced the Continental tires on my 2004 Expedition at 93,000 miles and they looked like they could have gone another 5,000 miles, I just didn't want to chance it. In the past I've been a big Toyota fan, but they missed the ball on this one!

Got 45K miles on my original run flats - 2006 Sienna. Just put regular tires and plan on getting a spare for the back. could not see spending the $$ for run flats.

a tire that runs flat once or twice a year seriouly Dunlop run flat tire supposely allow me drive my car at low speed when tire pressure drops significantly that a regular tire would let the tire rim touch the ground. Supposely one can drive slowly up to 80Km on as low as 20psi wihtout damgae to the tire rim on regular road.
anyways the convenince comes at the expense of the need to check pressure frerquently, a small pot hole or some tracks of ice int the back lane will cause air leak and then need to fix the tire. for some poeple it great in deep winter.

We have a 2005 AWD Sienna with 45,000 miles. This was our second set of tires, they had about 20,,000 miles on them. The tires had just begun making "the noise" as the last set did. Yesterday a tire blew out on the interstate. Three small children in the car.
The tires will be replaced with normal radials. I will never use RFT's again, and I will probably get rid of this car because of this problem. With tires which are not trustworthy - and no spare - it is an unsafe vehicle.
That Toyota would sell a car that it knows is defective is beyond comprehension. They should have done the right thing and managed a proper recall. This was my first Toyota and honestly, it will probably be my last.
I would not recommend this car to anyone, even if it is the only AWD minivan (which is the only reason we purchased it) as it is simply not trustworthy.
