I am thinking of purchasing a Ford Escape 4x4 but am concerned about reports of stalling and airbags malfunctioning from some reviews that I have read. Price - remember its Cdn funds is $19,000 leather, power and sunroof - airbags on sides as well I would appreciate any information from owners of this truck - I live in Ontario, Canada so need something that is safe and good in snow. thanks for your help

Where did you read these reviews? I just checked the recalls and the safety ratings, and they don't look too bad. The rollover rating isn't fantastic, but the rest of the safety report looks good. I see 3 recalls, but nothing regarding the airbags.

did notice that there is a recall associated with the accelerator cable which given the right circumstance- could also be scary (as most recalls usually are)... (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/ford_escape_mazda_tribute.html)

The car is a stout SUV. It serves a great purpose for whats its intended, SUV, good gas milage, compact, fun.

I think this is a solid car emeraldgal - its pretty inexpensive compared to what you are getting - a solid but not overbig SUV - I owned the Ford Expedition and I always like the Ford Escape b/c I thought the Expedition was too big, the Explorer was neither big enough nor small enough to get advantages of smaller size like handling, ease of parking and gas mileage etc and I alwas liked the Escape. Do they have the Hybrid avail in Canada? I dont know what gas costs up there but its a ton here - so aside from the regular Ford Escape being a great value I think this option makes it even more attractive.

Fun fact: Canadians buy fewer SUVs than we do. Should say something about perceived need vs. actual need.
