I have a 2002 HD with the 8.1. Same thing. Runs fine, then when you lest expect it, it shuts off. Kind of scary especially w/a 10000 lb trailer. If anyone knows the number or name of the GM recall, please pass it along. Also, does anyone know of a safety recall with the ABS sensor triggering in the front hubs between 0-5 mph. I asked my GMC dealer, but they were as usual less than helpful. Thank you all for your help.

Hello,
I do have some info, General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado, 2000-2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, 1999-2002 GMC Sierra, 2000-2002 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL.
To see if your vehicle is involved you must call either the dealership or the customer service number, try the dealer first but if you want then the C/Service number, they are in the back of your owners manual.
The Bulletin No.: 05068C is on the brakes but nothing for a 2002 on crank sensor problem, that don't mean it's not the problem though.
The 2001 recall on the crank sensor is # 06083 - the brake number is # 04094, remember now that not all vehicles are involved, you have to give them your vin number to find out first.
I've seen this in the last 32 years that I've been in the auto repair business, as you'll find out, the recalls are designed for passenger type trucks, not so much for the work horses, I guess us work type guys are replaceable when we crash.
Good Luck

I have a 2001 8.1l that i have put in a 84 dually. At first it ran good but after a few months it started to turn off whenever. Checked fuel press. good. Found my code reader keeps throwing dtc cod p0336. Replaced fun to change crank sensor and im running around again.

My father inlaw has a 2001 3500 8.1 gasoline truck. He is having very similar issues. Would everyone suspect it to be the crank sensor as well? I assume so...

My '05 silverado has the 4.3 V-6 with 13,000 miles on it and it shut off on me going down the highway. It would not start so I had it towed home. After pushing it into the garage the next day it started up fine. I removed the gas cap and the fuel pump sounds like it is working fine. But give it gas to rev the engine and it will bog down and die. Also the tank is full of gas. Could it be the pump is going bad? Some of the reply's that I have read says that the '05 V-6 doesn't have an inline filter on the frame rail and that it only has the one in the tank. Can anyone confirm this?

It has been four days since my 4.3 V-6 died. I started it this morning and drove it about five miles and it ran fine. Then I started to work this afternoon and it is sitting on the side of the road. It just bogged down again and died. But I was able to hook a computer to it this morning and the code shows it to be the mass air flow sensor, so I ordered a new one. Will be here tomorrow. Hope that fixes the problem, but I doubt that it will.

I have a 98 ZR71 with the 5.7L that is doing the same thing. So far, it is not giving me any trouble codes. Guess I will replace the crank position sensor and see if that works. Also gonna try removing the gas cap to make sure it is not vapor lock.

My truck is a 2002 Chevy Crew Cab dually with the 8.1 V-8 and Allison transmission. Recently while going down the road the engine would just quit. It's happened 4 times now and it's a heart-attack inducing moment when your hauling 36 feet worth of show horse/living quarters horse trailer. It always starts right up after pulling over and placing in Park. I related this to an independent GM mechanic and the first thing out of his mouth...crank sensor! It's getting done next week.
