Hi, i'm new to posting, but i have a query i am trying to solve before i go away soon....

does anyone know how to cure a car phobia?  My wifes mother will be travelling with us for a long trip, but apparantly she is terrified of cars...

as far as i can workout this not the result of any previous trauma, she just locks up anywhere near a car....

does anyone have anything i can try to cure her 'auto-claustrophobia'

I think you need a psychology forum rather than an automotive forum. Most people here will give you advice involving a large wrench and swift blow. I would search for psychology forums, or maybe a local hypno-therapist or something. If not, stick her on a train.

Good luck with that....

Do what they did in the A team and drug her so that way she sleeps the entire way.

I would suggest googling "fear of cars", "fear of driving", "phobia", etc. etc.
You'll come up with some intersting suggestions. Try that.

How about an SUV? Truck? Or motorhome? You stated she's phobic to cars. Maybe she'll be okay with other vehicles.

hahahahhaa

That is a way better suggestion than my big wrench idea. Does this woman have a mohawk and a fondness for flashy jewelry?

I agree, I say the best way to cure a phobia is to take it head on. Just stick her in the car and make her deal with it. Most likely, after a few hours in there she'll get over it....you know, unless she's like prone to pass out because of her age or has heart troubles or anxiety attacks...then I'd just stick to the drugging.
