Last week I was on a hill at a stop light and shifted into park. Once the light was green I shifted again into drive. I heard a large clump noice. When I put it into drive the truck did not move then I went one gear over and noticed that my transmission has shifted. Each gear is now one gear over. Is this something to be concernced about? I have been driving it ever since without any problems except for of course the location of the gears.

So what you're saying is park is at the R, reverse is at the N, neutral is at the D, etc. Is that correct?

Well is is just about like that. Park is still park...since there is a long distance between park and reverse...but reverse is neutral, neutral is drive, drive is first gear...and so on...down the line.

madtown30: That is indeed correct.
Somehow you managed to cause the shift linkage to get out of adjustment. My guess is that you forgot to mention that when you put it back into drive on that hill, you had to give the shift lever a good pull. You probably have nothing more than a bent push-pull rod, although the adjuster may have slipped. You could probably drive it like that for years with no ill effects, but it shouldn't take but a few minutes to repair and make it right.
