Let’s say you invent a rattly little claptrap of a car. Say you call it, oh, Chevrolet Cavalier. Critics worldwide laugh. They laugh at its engine, its handling, its steering, its braking, its ride, and its interior design; frequent references to “rental car” are made. 20 years later, the laughter has not stopped. What would you do?

The greatest minds in Michigan decided this: first, make it bigger and a few hundred pounds heavier. Downgrade its rear suspension to a solid axle (who would ever notice harder bumps and louder thumps?). Give it really artificial-feeling electric steering because electric steering is the future, nevermind that no one figured out how to make it work in the present. Stick its speedometer in the center of the dashboard, where no one ever looks, so the target youth market can revel in its uniqueness. Kids dig that, fo shizzle! And to really enforce the message, bombard teenage TV shows with commercials featuring Alphaville’s 20-year-old pop hit “Forever Young.” Finally, put this theoretically affordable youth car on sale at Saturn dealerships, the only car store whose policy is “Always full price! Always!”

Personally, this 24-year-old didn’t buy it. Judging by sales figures, not a lot of others did either.

Just go drive a 2005 ION,what a great car. Nothing out there for the price for bang for the buck. Saturn is a great all around. Nothing but a Korean import can touch it for the price.

Better than the original? No (except maybe the S/C'd). A great car? No. A good car? Yes.
The 4 door does kinda' look....weird, but many cars do these days. And the center stack worked well IMO; I liked it.
Not too buzzy (campared to the S series). Interior quality was OK, but the fit-n-finish wasn't great (meaning there are better out there in this cost class & below).
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I gave it a 5, maybe 5½
