I have had my 2003 Toyota Tundra Limited into the dealer four times to diagnose and repair a clunking sound that is heard ONLY when the engine is cold and I apply the gas pedal to back up. It "clunks" only one time and you can actually feel some sensation or slight movement in the gas pedal as well. The dealer has not been able to figure this problem out.
Also. my A/C has a terrible musty, urine type odor!!!!!
I would appreciate any ideas on what could be causing these problems. Thanks very much, Don

Hi Don - The problem with your A/C is that when you run it condensation (water) collects and if it does not dry out will mildew. So the smell you are expereiencing is this. The dealer should be able to replace the air filter and this may fix it but you may also need to have them spray something to kill the mildew odor (not sure what they use but the dealer should know).
I am taking a guess here but sounds like something with your transmission on the backing issue when you are hearing a "clunk". Hope this helps.

Yeah your AC smell is mildew from the moisture. The dealers do indeed have a foaming mildew killer they can run thru your condenser to get rid of it. To prevent it in the future, you should turn your AC off a few minutes before you get to your destination, and during that time run your vents with just air from the outside to help dry out any moisture the AC left.
Your clunking issue indeed sounds like either the transmission or your differential. On my M3, we get a clunk shifting between 1st and 2nd, but it's just the differential, and it doesn't mean anything if wrong. You may want to check with other Tundra owners to see if they have the same issue, it could just be normal and nothing's wrong.
