Situation 1. Those highly-suspect fuel mileage ratings are being revisited by EPA 2. Complaints have grown on accuracy since rating first appeared in late 1970s 3. Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers: Surveys indicate customers satisfied as is 4. Consumer's Union rated Toyota Prius 22% lower than MSRP sticker indicated 5. 3 tests may be added by EPA: Driving up to 80 mph; 95 degree heat w/ AC; run at 20 degrees Significant Points 1. Most drivers find current scores out of sync w/ real-world driving situations 2. Rules haven't been updated since 1985, may lower rating on Toyota Prius 3. Lawmakers in Congress also weighing ways to revise EPA testing system 4. John German w/ Honda US: Numbers still won't be accurate as tests are extreme 5. Some automakers, dealers also say they are satisfied w/ scoring system as it Source - Automotive Digest --------------------- There was a discussion here about Hybrid gas mileage, where I referenced an article in Wired in which consumers reported the actual gas mileage they get isn't close to what they're supposed to get.

hallelujah brutha - number one is true - i have NEVER gotten the gas mileage the sticker said i would get - and this goes for performance to putput cars - never a one has been as advertised. the only bigger sham than these ratings are the CAFE standards - its so funny to hear politicians talking about how detroit cannot raise CAFE - reminds me of the old joke - how can you tell when a politician is lying .... the lips are moving
