I have a 1996 Mazda Miata with a 1.8 liter engine. My first one owned and paying $1200 for it two years ago was a steal.
Problem number 1: it idles OK but when I floor it the engine shakes as if an injecter was not working. As I ease off the gas (about half peddle)it smooths out. I have replaced the in-line gas filter but I figure it is the fuel pump filter that is clogged to where it is not getting enough gas. (This is just a guess on my part) It hasn't been fixed yet. It has passed inspection with this problem before.
Problem number 2: I have disconnected the battery several months ago to clear a security code on the radio. Then the Check Engine light came on and after driving it for several days the light went out.
Inspection time. I have taken it to several places and the print out reads "not ready" on the O2, EGR, Catalyst sensors.
I have driven it over a hundred miles but the read out is the same.
I have had a mechanic use an anylizer on it and he has had no luck in clearing the problem.
It refuses to print an error code. Would you think all the problems are related? Is this a common problem with Miata's? Help!
