hey, i was thinking of a car under 35k, and i saw the GTO, though it would be nice to know a lot about the car. also, would be nice to know about another car, just as fast (or close to it), in the same price range. all info be good. thanks peoples. i know my grammar sucks, but so does france.

Here's a review of the 2004 GTO:

I believe Pontiac has discontinued the GTO though there are rumors of a future vehicle.

yeah i think it was discontinued not because of reliability issues i think it just missed the mark, like the ssr, the new thunderbird, and the mercury marauder. i'm actually not sure if the ssr has been discontinued although i dont see why they wouldn't have. i personally like the gto and think the biggest mistake was putting the gto name on it, the same way dodge made alot of people mad putting the charger name on a four door car. i know that they are pretty fast cars but the styling is kind of bland which i think is perfect for a sleeper

its definately got power, if you can get past the bland pontiac styling and the fast that its no longer being made (parts, etc) which will be an issue down the road.. then go right ahead.

With the GTO you are pretty much buying the drivetrain. You aren't getting much in the way of handling, styling, interior or braking. But if you want to go fast in a straight line, it will work.

You asked for alternatives, but I think everyone on here already tried to give you alternatives, and then you cried about all of them. You don't like German cars because "they are always getting smoked" you obviously don't get out to the track much. You don't like STIs and EVOs because "everyone has them", yeah thats the curse of building a good product, everyone wants to buy them, you would think the automakers would be more considerate of your need to be an individual. Sorry man, we tried to help.....

As far as the GTO goes I have video of the 6.0 litre going through quarter mile @ 12.06 sec.s @ 112 mph......I found that pretty respectable considering most of the drive train was stock......I'm thinking about purchasing one because personally I believe the car is going to be another 66 nova SS .......Now there was a car that back in it's day was the most misunderstood car...It was a poor man's SS Chevelle ..It wheel hops to much, it doesn't corner the way the mustang does, and it doesn't have the styling I want..TOO BOXY-WAS THE COMMENT OF THE YOUTH BACK IN THE MID TO LATE 60'S...Today it's one of the most sought after body styles in the hot rod industry especially the 66 nova SS with L-79 option ( 327/350 hp corvette motor) which coupled to a 4 speed muncie tranny, and 12 bolt posi with 4:10 gear could walk away from the 66 - 69 Chevelle SS with big block......This is where I see the GTO going....I believe you give this car another 10 or 15 years and the hot rod bunch is going to be after the body style....
