It seems that when it's damp outside, it takes a few tries to get the engine to start.  It's even worse when it's a bit cold and damp (not unlike an early spring morning.  Its been suggested to me to replace my plugs and wires.  Any thoughts?  

how many miles are on the car?  

204,000km approx.  Had the thing since '97 and has been giving me headaches ever since.  

That would be the first things I would try! At that many miles it might need some TLC! Fuel filter would not hurt also if it has not been done.
