When the car is totally warmed up and I slow down to a stop, I get erratic low oil pressure readings. The needle bounces between 35 and 20 PSI. It always used to read at 40. The idle rpm's remain constant. It started happening after an oil/filter change and when the fluctuation got worse, the mechanic changed the filter. It didn't help but for maybe a day. I took it to the dealer for my next oil/filter change and explained what was happening and they said the problem was my gauge. I don't feel confident in their diagnosis but since it's still under warranty, they are going to remove the instrument cluster and send it out to be repaired. Could this really be the problem? If the gauge went bad, why would I have good pressure when the engine is cold? The vehicle only has 34,000 miles on it.
Its possible it could be the gauge, did they tell if this was a common problem or not? Since its under warrenty, if it is not the gauge they will find the problem while your car is there.
