I have a 96 Pontiac Grand AM that just quit on me last Wednesday due to overheating. What happened (according to the Mechanic) is there is a crack on the right side of the engine head due to overheating. I had taken the car in for an engine flush about 6 months ago and somehow the mechanic who worked on the engine glued the right side of the engine head onto the engine instead of screwing it as a result air was getting into the engine the whole time. I don't know much about cars but I am just going off of what I was told/may have understood the situation. The car was running fine the whole time until it overheated. The Mechanic who took a look at it told me that it needs a new engine head in order for it to be usable again. In addition there is water leak and it will cost up to $2000 to fix it. He however, told me that if I can get an engine head he will fix it for about $300? Is this true, if so can someone direct me as to where I can obtain a usable one and how much it costs.....he told me to check the junkyards but I do not know of any? Can anyone please help me or provide information as to what I can do with the car i.e. will any dealership accept this, can it still be traded in or who would take it for its parts....Thanks!
