My 2000 Ram has been a problem since it hit about 30,000. It chugs & misses but not all the time. I,ve changed plugs & wires, no help. replacing the cap & rotor cleared up the problem, but only for a while. Octane boost also helps but only for a while. I've cleaned the fuel rail & pulled the injectors, but you really can't clean them. Anyone else have this problem?

I've seen similiar problems on 2 Dodges. What I found is when the fuel gets low, like 1\4 tank or less, the fuel pump starts sucking air because the in-tank fuel filter is restricted.
It feels like an ignition miss but it's actually got air in the fuel rail. I have a fuel pressure guage with a bleed off valve. With the engine running I bleed off a little fuel into a clear tube and see if there's air in it.
The fix is to pull the tank (yuck!) and replace the filter.

It is easier to pull the bed than to pull the tank
