Both cars are almost evenly matched however do you think that chevys slow responses to Ford's advances in concept cars. Ford started the true rebirth of the muscle car in 2005 with the debut of the recreation of the classic american mustang. Ending the pathetic attempts of putting classic names on ***ty rounded off vehicles. Such as the chevy impala, mercury cougar, and the camaro. However Both Dodge and Chevy have maded great strides in their recreation of true american muscle as well as great downfalls like the greatly atticipated Dodge Charger which was a great car however the 4 door aspect destroys its image as a muscle car. Chevy's new camaro, Dodges new challanger, and the close Shelby/Ford GT500 Mustang are probably the most desired concept cars ever biult in the history of the american automobile. We are all expieriencing the rebirth of the 60's.
Mustang vs. Camaro vs. Challanger- The first of the true muscle cars to come out will be the Ford GT500 mustang, the most powerful commercial mustang ever biult which holds a 500hp engine under the hood and costs a minimal 45,000 and is only a 1/2 second slower than a ZO6!!! For half the money of the corvette a upgraded supercharger and ex system would make the mustang a worthy opponent. However sence it is so heavy, as true muscle cars should be it suffers from more drag.
The Camaro like the mustang offers a highly aggresive body style which tunes the mind to good old american pride and reminds the retirees of what the 60s used to be. Chevy has put a big V8 pulling 505hp which I guess they added the 5 just for bragging rights. It is just a hair faster than the GT500 using the Z06 engine which compared to a Z06 it is almost even in weight weighting a wooping 500lbs less than the mustang proving that chevy had to rush to put her together. Some skeptics believe that untill the two competitors meet on a road side by side the arguement between Ford vs. Chevy will never quite end.
The Challanger out of the big 3 has the most distictive muscle car body however one draw back, lowest horsepower leaves this mopar hugging baby back to the drawing boards as dodge released its most powerful model so far only gets 425 hp which is still kills almost ever other sports car on the market. Dodge also slacks in interior design giving off the used 80s look chevy uses in the corvette. However it would probably be the most noticable on the road whith the dodge fan bright orange and black stripe paint job. Its over all a gorgous and mean looking car and might rectify dodges mistake with the Charger.
Overall the Mustang and the camaro seam to be the real big dogs hear offering extreme horsepower for extremely low prices however the camaro and challanger are still to be priced.
A lot of companys are starting to get back in the mix like the Plymouth Barricuda, the concept Pontiac Trans am ,and the long lost brother of the mustang the Ford Falcon as well as other famous cars of the 60's.
I cant wait till the day I see red white and blue muscle hit the street shredding the imports like a bad credit card and showing off the stars and stripes that made america the free and proud nation it is today.
Thank you for reading, here are some schematics on the big 3
GT500- 500 horsepower 480 pound-feet of torque Zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds $43,000
I've been looking for the true stats on the camaro and challanger however i need the ZL-1 and the R/T versions.
By the way which muscle car are you waiting to be released besides the big 3?
Personally I can't wait till the Mercury Cougar is reexplored.

remember that Mercury Cougar they released like 5 or 6 years ago, what an awful car that was, and even though it has the lowest horse power my money would go for the challenger i love the styling at least on the exterior, its about time dodge starts making great cars again

not trying to flame, but im waiting for the skyline gt-r. the whole muscle car formula is too out of date for me personally. you can put a gigantic motor into anything. straight line performance is just..eh.. balanced cars that perform all around with little motors making big power are way more impressive. a remake of a 40 year old car is not very innovative..
...but, i would still take a new z06...

okay, okay, yah'll gotta get yer facts straight before you go shootin' off at the mouth. I know as a fact that both GM and Ford are the ones that need to play "catch up" with thier versions of the new and coming muscle cars.
although the standard model Challenger will most likely come with the smaller 5.7 HEMI, there is talk of an SRT-8 version with the 6.1 HEMI that produces (as previously stated in this thresd) 425 HP and 420 Ft. lbs of torque which at a sticker price of around 31k, will leave both Ford and GM reeling on thier heels a bit to try and keep up. also, the new Challenger concept Super Stocker will contain a sweet rendition of the new 392 HEMI that produces 525-550 HP. that my friends, is nothing to be taken lightly, and so far, outperforms both Ford and GM in the HP ratings. I watched the car do cosistent 1/4 mile times in the high 11's- low 12's at the 2007 "MoPars at the Strip" event in April. oh yeah, they are still tooling with more power options.
I get a kick out of comments about the interior design. I have sat in the new Chally and personally have NO problem with the styling whatsoever. it's a very comfortable feel, nostalgic, yet modern look and I could almost guarantee that it will not hurt Chryslers sales in the least.....and no, I do not have a mullet and live in a trailer park out in the country. ![]()
BTW, Skyline? try as I may, I will never understand the tuner crowd....

I'm a big fan of the ZO6 even though it isn't a true muscle car, it's more of a sports car. The car is a beast, I love that LS7 engine they have in it. I hear just adding a superchager to the LS7 can easily put it over 600hp, that' pretty amazing.
The GT500 is a real nice mustang, but it's offly heavy. The year to get is the 03 or 04 Cobra Mustang. That car is lighter and can produce as much horsepower as the new GT500 and will end up beating it because it is lighter. GT500 still is a bad ass muscle car though!
