Personal Experience in a Dodge Neon SRT-4

My friend took me out in his Dodge Neon SRT-4 yesterday. Until now, I am still amazed by its turbo's pull. He has modified his SRT-4 to 350+WHP and he had a full tank of 100 octane gas ($6 a gallon!). The SRT-4 had so much power that it needed traction all the way from 1st gear to 2nd gear and 2nd gear to 3rd gear! Last night was actually my first experience in a turbo car (16.9 Psi). I have been in an E46 M3 and S55 AMG before, but neither of them delivered such a rush! I have a lot of respect for the Neon SRT-4 now. It was easy to mod to gain a lot of power and most of all it's a Neon that can smoke cars that cost 3-4 times its price!

they are very fast little cars.  i only have 2 complaints -
1) its front wheel drive so like you said, power a little over stock=no traction
2) its a neon.  american turbo cars?? no thanks.  they already had a recall and now they're blowing head gaskets left and right.  they can make a lot of power like any turbocharged car, but not reliable power.

most srt-4 owners are also reckless, trying to race everyone they see on public roads, revving their engines, getting a blow off valve just for noise and blowing off at anyone with their windows down and pedestrians walking on the sidewalk.  dont get me wrong, they are fast and fun, but I have too many personal issues with them.

if you really want one though, better act now. theyre not going to be around much longer, dodge already pulled the plug

That is true, people who drive that car are very immature drivers, especially in parking lots...

Thats kinda funny because i think the same way. I drive an 03 litchfield WRX and its a really fast car but that doesnt mean i want to race down the highway. I had an SRT-4 pull up next to me in heavy traffic and try to race. The cars must depreciate your morals when you drive them. And why is dodge even making turbo cars? Stick with the Vipers Dodge and leave turbo's up to real car makers who know the purpose and importance of all wheel drive.

I can't wait to drive the new Caliber SRT-4.  Not a huge fan of the design, but I'm sure it'll be a blast to drive.  And it's exciting to see an american awd automobile with 300 hp that might challenge the Subaru WRX STI or Mitsubishi Evo.  However I don't see it being much of a threat, they are two different markets.  (Caliber will be much less expensive)

I recently purchased a 2004 Neon SRT-4 and I couldn't be happier ... of course I've only had it for a week!  But holy *** is it a BLAST to drive!  About three months ago I went searching for a fun compact sports car that I could afford ($15-$20k range) and ended up driving a ton, namely a 2003 Mini Cooper S, a 2005 Honda Civic Si, a 2004 Acura RSX, a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon SE, and a few outside my price range such as a 2006 Civic Si, 2005 Honda S2000, and a 2005 Nissan 350Z.  I also drove a 2004 Mustang GT Mach 1 and a 2006 Mustang GT, but I concluded that a rwd vehicle would be a bad choice for all of the bad weather here in Missouri, especially since I drive a lot for my job.  And plus they were too expensive ... (I didn't even let myself drive an STI or EVO)

I searched and searched and couldn't find a Neon SRT-4 in my area, so after a long deliberation I ended up getting the 2005 Tiburon SE, mostly because it was by far the best buy and had the least amount of miles (just under 2,000) with the longest warranty.  Well, after driving my Tibby for three months I was on the internet browsing cars one afternoon and found a red Neon SRT-4 at a local dealership.  I went in for a test drive, and that was it.  I fell in love.  Of all the cars I drove the SRT-4 was by far the quickest and most agile.  I could really appreciate the 230 hp and 250 lb/ft of torque vs the 168 hp and 170 lb/ft I was used to.  Although it's a blast to fly around town in, it really is pretty smooth on the highway.  I'm really not the type to race anyone (I don't need any tickets) but I have had a lot of interesting encounters, especially on the highway.  One was from a business man driving a new Mustang GT.  Needless to say he was just messing around, but I've had some pretty serious challenges from various testosterone-driven tea-bags, but I just kind of ignore them.

Anyways, I would encourage anyone interested to take a test drive.  You'll be pleasantly surprised.  It's not a car for most daily drivers, but it's a ton of fun for ME!

This is for "automotivedp." I have to say, in my opinion, you are quite prejudice against people who own SRT-4s. I myself own a Neon SXT and plan on doing quite a few modifications on my car. Just because you find immature boys "blowing off at anyone" while on the streets, does not mean everyone who owns one of these cars is like that. Don't down the car, it's the person behind the wheel of it.

I have to disagree with all the haters towards the SRT-4 you guys are just hatin on it because its a fast car that can compete with the Lancer Evo and WRX. yeah you might have to upgrade but what do you think those are they are upgraded Lancers and WRXs. C'mon iam a owner of a SRT-4 and i have put in about $8,000 worth of upgrades in mine and i wont lie i have beat many STI's around here. And you people cant say that people with SRT-4s are the immature drivers that put in a blow-off valve and try to race everbody. people with fast cars in general are gonna like to show off the power sooner or later and a SRT-4 is a fast car and yeah people will try to race its a fun car. but my SRT-4 with my upgraded turbo, exhaust, and my (HKS BLOW-OFF VALVE), and many others including my 19 inch TSW wheels and Carbon Fiber hood and trunk lid, not to mention im pushing over 380 HP will definetly blow away your STI or EVO.
