Let me just say thank you in advance for any and all advice on my issue. My Volvo s40 will not start. It only makes a clicking noise when I'm attempting to jump start it. Neighbor suggested that it could be the fuse line to the battery? It is getting some power whenever the cables are hooked up. As soon as the cables(jumper) are removed there's no power what so ever. The lights will come on whenever Im trying to jump start but, when cables removed there's no power. I'm on a very tight budget. I never knew just how expensive Volvo maintenance could be!! Please let me know what you think!! Sincerely, Layne

Take a bottle of Coke and pour a little over the connection on the battery and the starter selinoid. You probably have a bad selinoid.

check your battery cells for water, it could just be a really dead battery.

It sounds like the battery has died completely and won't even take a charge at this point. To be sure the battery should be charged if possible and then load tested. Most self service wrecking yards sell batteries for $25 or you might find a local battery supplier that sells reconditioned batteries cheap. I pay $20 to the guy I get mine through. Keep in mind that the battery may have gone dead because of a charging system problem.....
