How much engine oil should a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country be using? The engine in this vehicle is the 3.8L V-6 and has 38000 miles.  The engine is using about 1 quart every 3000 miles.  This doesn't seem right. What would cause this vehicle to be using oil? There are no visible signs of leaks.

Thanks

I am not sure about your car, but I do know many cars that will burn about a quart of oil every 3000 miles.  These are more performance oriented engines though.

1 quart per 3K miles seems excessive to me. If it's not on the ground its being burned. You can check your plugs for evidence of that. I am guessing that at 38K miles you should still be under waranty. Talk to your dealer.

for alot of cars (this isnt all cars) the dealer accepted oil consumption is 1 quart every 1000 miles.  I know that sounds bad and in a lot of cases it is but such is life.  I just wish I knew how much, if any, iol consumption was allowed for your specific engine.
